    Mandatory Credit Card info even for Free Stuff??? WHY??!!!


    I went on the computer and signed into my Xbox 1 account to get the Witcher 2 (currently free) to download on my 1. This also happens with all the "backwards compatible Gold games". It then tells me I have no valid payment options and won't give me the game
    without some kind of credit card number??? Why do you need a credit card number for something that is free??? Xbox is so unnecessarily complicated in just about every aspect it presents. Why can't I just add the game to the system without some kind of hassle

    In light of recent attacks on the Xbox Live service..

    Xbox 360 website purchases require a valid payment instrument on file. It's just a restriction of the website, even though the games are "free" they still go through a purchase process. You'll have to either add a card/paypal or fetch from an actual 360
    console.

    Once you download the game you can always remove the payment method.

    They are just using the payment system to provide the games with a $0.00 price rather than build a whole new delivery method. It is much easier/faster to change the prices on the games than to develop a whole different delivery system.

    It says I have $1.56 on my account. Why wouldn't it go off of that instead of asking for my personal information? Is money not considered a payment method??? Playstation doesn't have this issue. Microsoft should take notes.

    The website has never been updated to use the currency system for 360 content. So it requires a credit card or Paypal since it doesn't see the money on your account.
