    So something isn't going the way you thought it would, and we're here to straighten it out! Please read the following and try out the suggestions here before posting in the forum. Thanks!

    I need help managing my Microsoft Account or password.

    I can't change my Gamertag (GT).

    Most of the time if you are seeing a message saying the GT you want is unavailable, it’s true. One thing to remember is that spaces and capitalization don’t make your GT unique. For example, “Major Nelson”, “MajorNelson”, and “MaJoRnElSoN” are all the same
    GT.

    GTs are also tied to services like the retired Zune service or Games for Windows LIVE. If a GT doesn't exist on Xbox, it might be in use on one of those services. If you try sending the GT you want a friend request and it says it’s not a valid GT that just
    means it isn’t used on Xbox Live, but it could be used for Zune or GFWL.

    I heard old GTs are being re-added. When will "This GT" be available?

    There is no schedule or estimated dates for when certain GTs will become available again. GTs are not an on-demand service. They will be available when they are available.

    What region is my account and what can I do about it?

    Your account region was set when you first set up your GT and can be checked by going to
    https://billing.microsoft.com and clicking on “Overview”.

    If your account region does not properly reflect where you currently connect to Xbox Live from, then you may experience issues when playing on Xbox Live or trying to purchase and download from the Marketplace. You may want to do a region migration to your
    current region to alleviate these issues. You can do this by
    changing your region
    on your Xbox Live account.

    My account is banned!

    If your account was banned for language, cheating, modding, etc., you will need to post in the Suspension forum to talk to an Enforcement agent.

    If your account was suspended for a billing violation, you can check
    https://commerce.microsoft.com
    to see exactly what is going on. If you owe money on your account, you can add a new card on your account page and transfer the balance to this new card. If you have any issues with this process, please
    contact us via phone or chat support for more help.

    I'm all grown up but still have a child account.

    Once you have reached the age of maturity (different in some regions, usually it is 18) you can promote your child account to a regular adult account. The process is really simple and is done on the console. Just follow these steps:

    • Sign in to the parent account. If you have issues with that, check out our
      Find your Microsoft account email address or password troubleshooter for assistance.
    • Navigate to the Settings hub on the dashboard and select Account.
    • Navigate to the Your Information panel and select Promote Account.
    • Select Yes to connect to Live.
    • Review the prompt and select Continue.
    • Review and accept the Terms of Use.
    • Check the boxes if you would like to receive info from Xbox.com and its partners.
    • The child account is now officially all grown up!
