    MALFUNCTIONING CONTROLLER

My controller has decided it won't work with my console anymore, either wireless or wired although it does connect for a few seconds from time to time when I unplug and plug the plug and play lead back into its port.

I've tried multiple soft resets, unplugging and even switching to AA batteries. Nothing, nada, zilch.

I've searched all over and other people have experienced this issue and got past it but whatever I've tried has failed.

To make it worse, Xbox support doesn't understand it either and just insists on a controller servicing even though it could actually be my console.

    :)

    Controller issues

Well what kind of controller is this is it the original Xbox one controller or 3.5mm controller? If it is the original Xbox one controller it might be the controller malfunctioning with your Xbox because they are outdated.

    Controller Malfunction

An Xbox Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting with a USB cable. This controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom of the controller (controllers without this port must update via
    USB cable).

If you have a stereo headset adapter, plug it into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on).Press the Xbox button  to
open the guide, choose System > Settings > Devices & streaming > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.Select Device info, select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue.

    Things to keep in mind

The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you plugged your stereo headset adapter into the controller while downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To fix this, go to the Home screen and unplug the adapter.
Then, plug the adapter back into the controller. You only need to update your controller one time to use the stereo headset adapter. However, if you plan to use the stereo headset adapter with other Xbox One controllers, you’ll need to follow this process for
each controller. Additionally, check for new updates periodically as Xbox frequently ships new controller features and improvements.
