Making change from Ethernet XBL connection to wireless

In my house, we used to connect the router to the xbox with an ethernet cable because they were close together. It worked, but the connection was slow.

We have been told that moving the router to where the phone line comes into the house can increase speeds, so we decided to do that but the phone line comes in through a different room. This means we can't use ethernet anymore without drilling holes in the
    house.

    1. To connect wirelessly, do I have do to anything other than buy an adapter to put in the xbox?

    2. Where is the cheapest adapter for this purpose?

    Thanks everyone ^^

    :)

    Unable to connect to XBL

Hopefully someone will be able to give me a bit of advice to get my youngests XBOX connected to live.

He's had an account for a couple of years and his slim is connected via wireless. He could connect to XBL yesterday, but today he can't sign in to XBL.

When I run a connection tests it says that the connection is OK to the router/ XBL etc, and this is the same whether the connection is via wireless or ethernet.

I've re-set the connection settings, reset the router, tested the ethernet lead with a laptop but no success.

My XBOX and two laptops connect OK to XBL/the internet via wireless and ethernet so I'm certain the router's OK :-/

    Anyone have any suggestions?

If you have the old FAT console then you will need a wireless adapter.

If you have the new Slim or E console then the wireless adapter is built in.

However, if your speeds were slow when using an ethernet cable then I'm afraid you're not going to get much better by switching to wireless. Your best option for faster speeds has always been when using an ethernet cable.

    Thanks for the answer.

I do have an old fat console as you put it ^^

I'm hoping that speeds will improve as we've changed broadband packages and now have fibre optic. Thanks buddy!

This is potentially a dumb question, but have you tried cancelling or backing out when it's asking you for a password? If you're connected by Ethernet, it absolutely should be connecting to the network - it might be "simultaneously" trying to connect to
both, but if you back out of the wireless connection attempt, I'm guessing your Ethernet connection should still be active?

Here's something else to try - Press Menu, then go to Settings. From here, go to "Network." In the first column, you should have the option to "Set up wireless network." When you select this option, it should automatically wipe out all of your old wireless
settings and start from scratch. From there, you could back out and reboot to see if it detects the Ethernet connection in the absence of any wireless settings. If that DOESN'T work, at the same Network Settings location, you can actually scroll down to "Advanced
Settings" and choose "Disconnect Wireless." This would make it so your console doesn't attempt to connect to the wireless AT ALL, which should default to the Ethernet connection.

Once you've changed any settings, I recommend doing a hard boot (hold the power sensor on the console for 8-10 seconds, wait for the power brick to go steady orange, unplug for five minutes, then start back up.) This should make it detect the "active" ethernet
connection in the absence of a wireless connection.

    Let us know!

I've had this problem before with my consoles. For the first time connecting make sure that your console and laptop are both connected via ethernet cable. That should allow connections from that point forward whether it's ethernet or wireless

Can't Redeem code, Can't connect to xbox live. Help needed.

    Hello Accusing!

In order for you to connect to XBL you will need internet access to your console, whether that be wired via an ethernet cable or wireless via WIFI or wireless adapter. Without those 2 things you will not be able to connect to the internet. You obviously
have internet access as you are posting here, are you using this from your home? If so you can unplug the ethernet cable that is connected to your computer and plug it into your Xbox for internet access.
