Make this my home Xbox issue

My friend is having a issue where he can't make his home Xbox on another Xbox. He does have 1 more time to change it but once he tries to make the other Xbox his home, it doesn't keep the setting. It doesn't say any errors or anything, it just goes back
to saying "Make this my home Xbox". Also, the 1 change left doesn't go away, just stays at 1. I did hard resets on both consoles but no luck.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me out or encountered this problem before, I am lost on what to do next.

One more thing, before my friend showed me this problem, it would work perfectly, no problems at all but now it would work only temporarily. He would make the other Xbox his home Xbox and the other person can play the games he had
but after awhile/mid-game, it would get disconnected. He would also be signed out when it would happen.

FYI, ask that they "manually" reset the counter rather than resetting the whole account.

That's not how Home Xbox works, and he never had access to your games. Downloading his profile to your Xbox does not give him access to your games on his Xbox.

And deleting his account won't make the game playable by your account; the game is still owned by his account (the licence is attached to his profile), so to play the game he would also need to be logged in on your Xbox while you play.

Changing *your* profile's Home Xbox affects only where the games *you* purchased can be played, it does not allow you to play games that you downloaded using someone else's account.

This issue is linked with your account, but I just confirmed by calling into Xbox Support that they can reset the "3 time per year" counter associated with the account.

She deleted my gold subscription in the process, but we eventually got everything worked out and I could then set my Xbox back to "my home Xbox".
