  1. Major problems with quality of DVR recordings

Hello. I have been using the XBox One DVR to record lots of gameplay for over a year. I always recorded for 10 minutes at a time in 720p (30 FPS). Within the past few weeks, though, problems with the quality of the footage began to arise that I've never
experienced before. Most clips now have audio skips and frame skips, although surprisingly, every once in a while I'm able to record a quality clip. In any case, the clips are nearly un-watchable, and if I try and work with them using editing software, the
audio sync for the entire video is behind by anywhere from 5-10 seconds (maybe due to the "variable frame rate" of the defective clip?).

For example, let's say I record myself playing a Halo campaign mission that takes roughly 30 minutes to complete. This would amount to about three total clips of gameplay. Up until just recently, these would all be of the same, high quality (i.e., 720p,
30 FPS) I had come to expect. Now, though, it's most likely that all three clips will be negatively affected (see above), with perhaps every once in a while I might get one "normal" clip, but the other two would be near-unwatchable.

When I first began recording, I was playing on an XBox One I purchased in 2015. Once these problems arose, I tried several troubleshooting methods, some of which I came up with myself. I did a "power cycle" reset, I turned off automatic uploads to XBox Live/activity
feeds, I did a factory reset keeping my games and apps and settings, I did a factory reset keeping my games and apps but NOT the settings (went back and adjusted just the DVR capture quality to 720p ONLY), etc.

On Tuesday of this week, I purchased an XBox One X, and to my utter and absolute surprise, the DVR problem persisted! I then called Microsoft support twice, and went through mostly the same troubleshooting steps I had already taken. I was told that this
was not a common problem, and that my concerns would be sent to a team for further examination. I was concerned that without anyone actually watching my defective clips, they may not understand the problem. The support person suggested I post to this forum
and that someone here might be able to help me and/or view the clips.

My personal opinion is that this problem has something to do with the most recent update, because after it, there were a couple changes made that might affect the DVR software. For example, a trim tool was added, and there's now a selection on the interface
that allows you to take the clip into Upload Studio. In any case, I'm really at a loss for what to do, save for returning the XBox One X, buying a laptop and capture card, and proceeding from there. Please, please someone help me figure this out.

    Thank you

    :)

    Problems with game DVR?

I've been having problems with the Xbox capture driver. I record normally without problems, but the
quality of the video that is bothering me. My friends have used the
DVR and, somehow, their recordings are BETTER than mine.

Is there any configuration on Xbox for this? It may be the resolution of my own TV?

  4. Major problems with quality of DVR recordings

A couple updates and rule-outs I either forgot to mention initially, or have since tried. First, I do not have a glut of recordings on my XBox or on XBox Live. All recordings are ultimately moved to a computer, where they can be edited using software, and
summarily deleted from my console and XBox Live storage space. I have a few there now, though, for the purposes of illustrating the above-mentioned problem.

Another rule-out is that I went off-line and did recordings, but still had the same problems with bad quality clips. In addition, I started using an external hard drive to record clips to, and turned off automatic uploading. Still had same problems with
recordings looking and sounding like crap.

Please, someone help me out with this.

There's also a good way around this by opening Picture in Picture, then record w/kinect, start it recording then begin your game DVR recording on your game. When done sync them and you have a livecam.

Yes, DVR functionality does drop the video quality. Kinect runs at 1080p.

Yea, gotta love the DVR function but as *** said (and I before that) it was done afterward. Though on a side note, video quality on recorded drops a bit.

i'm also running an AMD R9 390 and an i7 2600k. guess the AMD card is the common denominator.

i have almost the exact same problem.

when i start recording is looks like it starts out with something like 500kbit/s, then the longer the recording goes the better the quality becomes (same for running the background recording). this does NOT happen with any other hardware encoder, only the
    xbox app dvr does that.

wild guess is that windows 10 does not set the starting bitrate properly, which is very unfortunate as it seems to be the most versatile of all 3 major hardware encoders as it supports not only every fullscreen application, but even UWP games.

    DVR problems.

Yes I have this problem and its really annoying. Having the DVR recording makes FIFA14 slow, sluggish and delayed in gameplay online and offline so I like to stop the DVR recording. Now however even with DVR turned off it keeps recording and saving the annoying
    auto record clips.

This has been happening since the last system update.
