  1. Major Problem w/ Audio

    Greetings,

    I have been having a lot of issues with my Xbox One lately, audio-wise. In the past week, I have contacted an assistant twice using the live online customer service chat Microsoft provides. It's been useless, though. I received a different answer each time;
so I just decided to turn here to the forums. Also, I tried Googling my issue, as well as looking through the forums for a similar topic, but I haven't had any luck. None of the issues I've came across have helped.

Anyways, here's the deal. Whenever I setup my Xbox One I had the TV Connection set to Auto-Detect, which it automatically set to HDMI. I wasn't pleased with the quality at all. It was very vivid, contrast was too high, and honestly it just irritated me while
playing anything, especially Netflix. So I decided to fiddle around, and I ended up setting it to DVI. Oh, I should also mention, whenever I had it on HDMI I did Calibrate it where it asks me to. But, compared to the DVI setting, it was still a big contrast.
I was absolutely impressed. The resolution in contrast to HDMI was EXTREMELY better. Everything was smoother, calmer, and I just really enjoyed my Xbox for the first time. I couldn't get off of it. But, the only problem was that I didn't have any sound!! Also,
    this is on 1080p.

When I decided to take the issue of not having sound onto the customer service chat they were very helpful in trying to find out why, but there was no solution. The first time I got help the man recommended I get an Optical Audio cable. So, right after I
closed the chat I rushed to RadioShack and got their best Optical Audio cable. I came back, hooked one end to the Xbox and the other to the TV, and NOTHING. I was very disappointed. Again, the resolution on DVI was so impressive it made me very impatient to
play with it while it had sound. I decided to go back on the chat to receive more help. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Anyways, second time around this lady told me to make sure on my Audio Setting HDMI is turned off, which it was, then she recommended
I go and buy a Analog to Digital Audio Adapter. The next day I go to buy that, but, still no luck, obviously.

I am very frustrated because I have spent over $30 trying to get this to work. I really hope you guys can help. I tried to narrow things down so y'all wouldn't have to read so much. Also, this problem never came up with my Xbox 360.

    - Thanks

    :)

The reason you may like the DVI setting more is that it makes your TV acts like a computer monitor more then a TV with how it displays images. Some like that others want the warmer picture of a TV.

When using digital audio you must put HDMI audio off (should automatically be disabled in DVI mode), then bitstream out(if using surround sound otherwise stereo) then select either DTS or Dolby for the bitstream format.

Heres some more info on it.

You might want to make sure that the spot into which the optical cable is plugged in the TV is not actually an Optical OUT port - Optical Out isn't that uncommon, but optical in ports are not terribly common. If you have an Optical-In, make sure your cable
is plugged into the input that is paired with the Optical In. Most times, there will be several video-in ports, but only one audio-in for things like Optical or 3.5mm.

The reason you are unable to get audio while set to DVI is because DVI is a video-only protocol - HDMI carries both audio and video, but not DVI, which will then require a separate channel for the audio. You are on the right track with the optical cable,
we just need to figure out where your settings are missing the mark now!
