Major Issues Since Latest Update

Well on the One hand there are damages which can only be caused by this and in the other hand you just told them a few posts above

No, honestly, certain disc damages can only be caused by putting it vertically. And also overheating problems, which will be detected, can only occur when the air ventilation is not working properly which in nearly all cases is caused by wrong positioning
of the One (only exception is a faulty fan). And wrong positioning is an user mistake and is not covered by warranty.

 

Warranty broken is when you take it apart! If its a heating issue its there faulty part they put into it! Anyway back on actual subject of this terrible update which needs fixing!

 

SO update to my issue of the system just turning itself off after a couple minutes of booting it up. I tried the reset, the diagnostic tools and all that jazz to no avail.

I started to feel like the issue might actually be in how the console is deciding to draw power. I know in recent updates they've been changing the dependency of the kinect. So I thought I might fiddle with the power supply rather than the console again
as none of the console tricks were fixing my issue. I did changed the following 2 things:

- pulled the power supply out from behind my tv (more room) and sat it on its 'feet' (felt pads)

- entered system settings and completely turned off the kinect sensor

I think the second change is what has made the difference as the console has booted successfully first try the last 3 days and hasn't crashed on me once. This by no means should be a real fix as I actually used the kinect sometimes, but if it lets me play
my games until the next update comes out I plan to stick with it. The other thing I noticed was that my console felt snappier after I turned off the kinect as well, things booted quicker and the menu felt more responsive.

Might be worth trying to those that haven't already. If I get a couple weeks out of this pattern without issue I'll turn the kinect back on and see if the problem appears again.

 

Im having the same problem. I can't play with or talk to my friends, can't play games, my gamerpic has gone and I've tried everything. SORT IT OUT MICROSOFT!!!!

 

Hey guys, I had this exact problem for a week or two now!

I simply unplugged the Kinnect, turned off the console to see if the update would finish (which it didn't several times). I restored to factory default (which again came up with an error message).

I then started eating the console bit by bit with a fork chewing slowly on the plastic pieces...

Anyways on a more serious note, unplug the console, check for updates, if not then factory restore it with the Ethernet cable unplugged and this is a guaranteed fix...if not then you definitely need to send it off for repairs or replacement (at Microsoft's
expense of course)

 

Got all the issues listed here (except the missing on screen keyboard) have tried factory reset via system and usb and still have all the problems. Have tried removing kinect with no change to issues. It was definatley the last update before 15/09 that has
caused this. Come on MS sort us out please we should have at least a free exchange with a new console within 5 business days, a courier to deliver the new console and take away this big black brick from under our tv's. We are after all, testing these dash
updates for you so thousands of others dont end up with bricked consoles. How much would that cost you? so come on MS pull your finger out and give us guys a break or dare I say it Sony will be getting our cold hard cash very soon.

 

I just did a offline system update as Microsoft just told me and now i can not get past green screen what so ever!

 

Try do the offline update without the network cable plugged in please.

 

Recap of my issue: console keeps turning off, freezing, crashing during boot often not even making it to the dashboard or shortly after getting to the dashboard.

I started to suspect my issue was related to a full system boot & power and have since changed the following system settings and have consistent success with it:

- go into your settings > kinect > turn off (your kinect light should go off)

- go into your settings > power & start up > turn ON 'instant on' (this avoids the console doing a full boot)

Obviously this hinges on you being able to make it to the settings. Sometimes it would take me many many tries in a row before the console would stay on long enough for me to get to the settings. But once I did, I'd adjusted the above items and it would
stabilize and allow me to use the console. I even re-enabled the kinect sensor and it worked fine too. The only time the issue re-appeared was when I fully powered down the console (yesterday) to free up a plug for something else. When I turned it back on
it had the same issue, so as soon as I got the chance (4 tries in) I turned off the Kinect sensor again and it stabilized.

So this pattern has been working for me and indicates a power draw | full boot issue. So my plan is to stick with it until the next update to see if it gets fixed and I can use the system as I normal would (not instant-on) if not I'll be looking for a replacement
and will be requesting a new everything, not just the console.

 

I have no sound on start up. Cant access settings menu. Kinect wont hear voice commands and the text in the menus is all strange and foreign/virus looking!!!!!

Sounds like you are in the preview program, where it is quite normal, that menu items may be displayed in strange unicode signs.

But if you are on a preview program dashboard please move over to the preview program forums and post your problem there.

 

After not being able to use my Xbox for 6 weeks I held off till the October update came out. Let my Xbox install the update and this has resolved all my issues. Hope it doesn't happen again.
