Mahjong locks up

As the header says... it starts, then it locks up, unable to pick a tile. I have a Surface Pro 2 128G, Windows 8.1, both with the latest updates installed. My App Update is set to Automatic, but I've just checked it to be on the safe side: no updates available.
I'd like to get some help, this is rather annoying, even if the price was only $1.49.

LOCKS UP

I had 2 cards daubed all the numbers, and it locked up, tells me to go to the rewards screen, don't know where that is and the only opotion is to click continue then it goes back to the play again screen.......I DID NOT GET ANY REWARDS AND THIS HAS HAPPENED
TO ME TWICE AND MY SON THREE TIMES.....WE PAY MONEY TO GET TICKETS, COINS, KEYS, ETC.
AND WE KEEP GETTING RIPPED OFF...I LOVE THIS GAME BUT THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Lock-up

This game seems to want to lockup my computer when I go in no matter what time of the day it is.

What am I doing wrong?

 

I forgot to mention: if I click Menu, game settings, etc., everything seems to be okay, but the tile set itself.

Yeah, sort of. It's not really a fix, but more like a "work around". First I pick the tile-set and when it's loaded, I enlarge the entire set with two fingers (just like in a browser), so the tiles are very close to the top and bottom of the screen. I lose
about a second, or two, but at least the game is playable. Changing screen resolution, driver rollback, etc. didn't help, this is the only way I can play the game. I thought about buying the premium version, but now I have serious second thoughts

 

Microsoft Mahjong is free- did you pay the $1.49 in order to disable the ads?

I just responded to another thread where a user was having a similar issue. I'm doing more investigation on this because it appears to only happen on a few tablets and we're not entirely sure why. Any additional information you can give me would be very
helpful!

I can give you some more information on Mahjong locking up ...

It first started last Wednesday (15 Jan), Tuesday 14th was the last day it worked successfully. It will always lock up now without fail.

I have a Surface Pro 2 with 256GB storage. It has been upgraded to Windows 8.1 and has Office 2013 installed. Apart from that not much installed on the base machine and certainly nothing knowingly installed last Wednesday when Mahjong stopped working. I
noticed a couple of Windows updates were automatically installed last Wednesday, so I did uninstall these and try Mahjong again, but it still locks up.

Will happily provide any more information that might help.

 

Did you try clearing the Windows Store cache and then uninstalling/reinstalling? Not sure if it will fix it but it's worth a shot. As an interesting aside, my work computer here was not able to run several other apps as of this morning. I just got a notification
of an optional update pushed live and am installing that now. Maybe check your optional updates as well because these won't install automatically. As you can see, I run into these problems on occasion as well.

 

I may need to escalate this issue as this appears to be due to the Surface update on January 14th and not an issue with the game. This is happening with other apps as well that have active touch controls. This seems to be a known issue as it's being discussed
on the Surface forums but I'll see if I can get in contact with someone from the Surface team.

 

thank you but cant help but feel a little frustrated, I was in touch with the support team on Thursday saying exactly this and was then passed around to Microsoft live suppport before spending almost an hour on the phone with the surface support team who
only offered advice to uninstall and reinstall.

 

I hate it that this is so frustrating for you. I'm in contact with the dev team and will see if there's anything we can do on our end to give some sort of workaround.

Also make sure you have this Windows Update installed. Some people reported never getting it and it's worked for some people whose games were crashing:

For me it started before the jan 14 win8.1 update, and neither the update, nor the surface pro 2 firmware fixed anything. I can play the game without resizing the tiles as long as I pick the tiles with my fingertips. If I use the pen, it locks up after a
few clicks. I have no problem with the pen in any other software, except MS Mahjong. All win8.1 update have been installed, surface pro 2 firmwares are up to date.

 

genius! you are completely correct. Tried to play without using the pointer - got through two games no problem, Replayed on of the games that worked with the pointer and it locked up on the second pair!

 

Dose this game function for anyone other than with a touch screen? It seems to work with my screen in touch mode but only a limited number of tiles can be picked with a mouse or pen. One thing good about this, I can uninstall and not have to see another
