Funny,on the side of the box that my xbox one came in it clearly says that xbox live & a significant download is required for initial set up.

Anyone who doesn't realise that you would need an internet connection to do that would be better off spending the money on an education rather than a gaming console.

  2. Mine, Gears Ultimate along the side in fine print reads. *TOP LINE SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS.* and yet again takes the long winded, attorney approach

Now, I am sure you paid a pretty penny for your Univarsity indoctrination, so why don't you explain why MS would use misleading language such as *that, as opposed to simple everyday language, oh I don't know, like....

Broadband connection required right on the front of the box and in BOLD print???

I posted around 3 years ago how without the net for setup etc that the X1 right out of the box wasn't capabe of running games, so for some people, like the OP, that means it's just a brick Yet you guys then responded and maintained that does work as a gaming
console right out of the box.

Now, years later some of those very same people are now posting the opposite and even suggesting anyone who didn't know or defends said person. Uneducated.- Which don't bother me, but if you were compelled to, once again. "Post (suggest) such ilk." Then
your compelling indoctrination must have once again gotten the better of you. (shakes head)

Side note: Remembering back, I had every intention to test my x1 to see if what the forum regulars were saying about it working right out of the box was actually true and forgot to. Then years later this thread came along. Glad it did!

What are you banging on about?

    What indoctrination? To who?

The xbox one has never worked straight out of the box,you need an update first. This is common knowledge & tells you on the box itself.

I believe what our precious Millennial Snowflake is on about is that the uneducated "working poor" do not have the means to a higher education unless it is provided to them by the government or the ruling class (i.e. Microsoft or any other corporation that
God forbid makes a profit). Causing these people to not achieve their birth right.....Of owning a video game console.

I foresee him yelling at a mailbox in the not too distance future.

  5. Internet connection is only initially required, I would suggest taking it to a friend's house for the one time setup and/or any system updates or even to the AV room at your school/library.

  6. You've gone down the "poor folks get it in the end" road a time or so before and I'll call you on it every time because I'm pretty much on that road. And you know that as well, since I've plain come out and said I've had near life long health problems and
limitations on income, at those times.

I have some bad news for you... I've come to the realization that the boat I'm in doesn't make me special and the same applies to the rest of the "working poor" as well as others with different life problems. Using some petty percentage of taxes paid comparison
to prop up a weak argument isn't going to work with me either. IMO it's nothing more than an obvious attempt to pull at heart strings.

I'll have to see if my wife's phone has a decent enough camera to blow up the fine print on the box I read
and BTW, as I said, typed directly from as I read it... if you really think I'd either lie or make that up. It's there, just as I typed it, On an Xbox One S box. I also know that MS does tend to update things like that, so it's possible that yours
doesn't read the same. But in the end, it makes little difference.

I'm one of the 99.9999999% of the population that doesn't speak MS's legal gibberish myself but I know that doesn't absolve me (or you either BTW) of a damn thing, regardless of how "mixed" the words get that suggest something on a package... of any kind.
That's because I use common sense and here's what applying a little of that points out in this situation... to me at least.

OP plainly states a knowledge of internet being "required" at one point.

OP states of being "under the impression" of it no longer being an issue.

OP states of buying an XB1, only to find out there is still an internet connection requirement.

The rest of OP's statement is riddled with sarcasm. Now IF OP is actually one of your "working poor" then common sense would tell me (if I were in that, or a similar position... and I am) to do as much research as I possibly could and make damn sure what
I'm buying is going to work without internet. Being under the impression wouldn't be good enough. It's that simple. It really is just that simple and no amount of number crunching, tax comparing "po-folks" logic is going to absolve the use of a little common
sense to avoid a big disappointment. And that's before we even get to the part where the idea of returning it comes into the picture. Think before you leap indeed.

I know what the word means,i'm not quite sure you do though.

Still not sure what you are banging on about & to honest I don't think you do either the majority of the time.

So if anyone reads " xbox live & a significant download is required for initial set up" on the side of the box & understands that that means they need broadband to set the console up that makes them a attorney ?

There ya go folks,we've all been in the wrong job all these years because we can read & understand things.

  12. Like I said, long winded way as opposed to streight forward.

But then MS can't do streight forward can they?

Another example would be. "Free Games with Gold." Which actually means. Free game rentals while Gold.

"Banging on about." Sorry, to burst your bubble, but the only one doing that is you. lol

But I do understand why you are compelled to keep doing it. And it isn't because you have arthritis.

  13. Loving my new paperweight!

This is getting a bit ridiculous, lol. MS is a company... and a big one. And they want to sell their product. It doesn't take a degree in marketing to know that emphasizing the pros and distracting from the cons is a commonly used sales tactic.

Want to know what applying a little common sense tells me about being "straight forward", about putting "Internet connection required" (et al) in big print on the front of the box, as you've said? "The moment you make something fool proof, they come up
with better fools". So, would it be nice if they did that? Sure, in fact I wish they had put it on the box to keep those who can't put enough thought or research into their purchases from being stupid. There, I said it. But by the time everyone who ever leaped,
then looked "had their way" and got their big print/warning label stating what it does or does not do, have, need, not need... etc. there'd probably be no room left on the box for anything else.

The way I see it, anyone who is considering a purchase of a complex, technical product (and no doubt for some, a bottle opener could fit that category) needs to do their own research. Those who can't get used to the legal-ese can go get a board game. Or
show up at the store with a magnifying glass and read the fine print... that may or may not be there and/or may or may not directly say every single thing the product is, does, has.

I also find it hilarious that you'd take a bit of a dig at someone for "banging on" about something right after bringing up (for the how many-eth time?) the whole "Games With Gold" thing... that you've been banging [off and] on about for how long now....

I mean, Free Games With Gold. It's a short, decent sounding description. And you're still miffed because you want your own interpretation of "With Gold" to apply. Or I guess they could ruin that and make it that much longer by saying something like "Free
Games As Long As You Have Gold Membership". Of course, if they followed the ideology of making sure all ads, slogans and details, etc. are perfectly worded and contain lengthy descriptions so in depth that almost nobody could possibly misinterpret them, then
I'm sure people would be here complaining that the "working poor" couldn't afford the microscopes required to read the packaging. Or the price increase caused by the inclusion of the full disclosure billboard "required" to accompany it.

Seriously... it is what it is regardless of whether or not you agree with the context/wording. Yeah, it'd be nice if the games were free and we kept them regardless of having Gold or not... but they didn't mean it that way.

I mean, what needs to be done next to keep people who misinterpreted something as simple as a 3-4 word description from being permanently scarred lol? It almost compels me to start warning people before it's too late.

Warning: To anyone who may be confused or misinterpret it. There are certain food/products in grocery stores that have "Refrigerate After Opening" somewhere on the package. This is NOT a sneaky, underhanded attempt to catch you in a permanent loop which
forces you to keep returning to the store and buying another package, while preventing you from using the product. You do not have to unseal the package and then immediately store it in the refrigerator... really... it's OK to open it, use it, then store it
    in the fridge. Honest.

    You're wasting your time Blue.

The whole Games for Gold thing has been explained countless times but never sinks in.

It has nothing to do with this thread anyway, just like indoctrination so no idea why either was bought up in the first place.
