So I've had this loud screeching noise for over a year now and everywhere I've read Xbox ambassadors were saying the only moving part in there that could cause it is a fan. Not the case at all I'm surprised these people got to become ambassadors so easily
when they're clueless about the hardware they're supposed to help with. Needless to say after a tear down I found out it was my hdd. Microsoft uses the absolute worst hdd's I've seen some 5400 rpm no name off brand. Swap that out and boom no more crazy screeching
and my Xbox no longer freezes plus load times are faster now. Best bet for any issues would be to check reddit or youtube these people are clueless here.

    :)

Alright sorry for late reply. I tried what you said. With no change. Any idea what it could be making the noise?

I had the same issue. make sure there isnt a disc in the console (seems gen 1 has recently been having issues with holding disc for long periods of time without removal) especially if you're like me and only use digital games maybe you forgot it was in
there this fixed my screeching. if no disc I reccomend putting in a disc and launch the disc game fully, proceed to quit and remove the disc. this should solve your issue :)

Hey there Cash thanks for keeping in touch.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, we believe the problem is going on because of the fan. There might be dirt in it causing the noise. The best bet would be to get the console serviced though our

    device page
    or by
    requesting a callback
to have one of our Xbox Support Specialists set it up. We hope this helps!

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.
