Loud pop, will not come back on.

It sounds like you need to send the console in for service.

When you are on the console and go to system, (push Xbox button on the controller on screen pops up on left go to the far left icon at top to system) When there do you see a audio option, the top one is for headset volume you can control how loud it is
coming in. Also there is another mic monitoring that the ones that coming through loud would need to adjust so don't come through so loud.

Yes, the slim is better. However, if you notice a fair amount of popping sounds coming from the console, that's normal, it's the plastic and metal expanding with the heat, I'm pretty sure it happens to every Xbox, though some might not notice if they have
the volume too loud or something.

I know what you mean, some times the notification pops up seem incredibly loud. I'd love an option to customise the volume and even the location of the pop up. Might be worth suggesting it over at: https://xboxideas.uservoice.com/
