2.
When I was a kid games were for kids and all adults frowned upon them. Now obviously that seems to be turning upside down.
I wish that was true in my area. My family doesn't play video games. Most of my friends don't
play video games. The people I go to school with don't talk about video games... *sigh*

I think the reason that study has the age a bit lower at 30 is because they include the 35% of people who game on there smart phones

Just consoles i think would be in the 35 to 40 range.

5. I'm 39 turning 40 shortly. I enjoy gaming now just as much as when I was a kid. It's a hobby, and no different than from sitting on the couch watching a movie. The positive is at least my mind is being active with some of the puzzle games I play. On topic:
looking forward to E3!

I think the young and people not in the know tend to still think gaming is geared toward kids. It's not. You have a couple generations now who grew up gaming.... these folks are now in their 30s, 40, and 50s.

Young people tend to think at some certain age you become old and you are no longer that person you were when you were young. You just do "old" things from then forward. Couldn't be further from the truth.

The average age of the gamer has been inching up every year for decades now. The average age of a gamer is now 30 and does not even fit the mold anymore, which proves we don't stop gaming just because we are not young anymore.

We might not have as much time to game as we did when we were younger, but we still love to game.

So going back to the xbox hater who suggested that Penello was 40 and therefore no clue what is "cool" is for gaming...... let me speak for all gamers 40s and above.......

7. Gaming makes up a very wide range of ages now. It's an activity many parents are doing with their kids. Trying to narrow down the average age of gamers is like trying to find the average age of people that like to eat.

Ok, so lets try this....." let me speak for all gamers 40 and above..... nibble on my tookus"

10. Uhh.... don't insult those older guys. Seriously.

Hideo Kojima - age 51

He is the creator, director and writer of a number of successful video games, including the Metal Gear series of stealth games and the adventure games Snatcher and Policenauts, and he also produced series such as Zone of the Enders, Boktai and Castlevania:
Lords of Shadow. Kojima is consistently named by fans and industry experts alike as being one of the most influential and innovative video game directors and writers in the industry.

Sam Houser - age 44

Co-founder and president of Rockstar Games and one of the creative driving forces behind the games in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, being director and producer since the third game. He is responsible for taking GTA into the 3D-environment era, creating
realistic cities under fully 3D-engines and turning the series into huge profits during video gaming's sixth-generation era. Houser has most recently produced Grand Theft Auto V and Max Payne 3.

Dan Houser - age 41

As well as producing video games, Houser has written most of the Grand Theft Auto games with the exception of Advance. He is also the head writer for Rockstar Games being the lead for Bully, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3.

Gabe Newell - age 52

Co-founder and managing director of video game development and online distribution company Valve Corporation.

In March 2013 Newell received the BAFTA Fellowship Award for his outstanding and exceptional creative contribution to the video games industry.

John Carmack - age 43

Co-founded id Software

(latest projects)

TBA -Doom 4; id Software Bethesda Softworks - technical director, engine programmer, developer

TBA 2014 -The Evil Within; Tango Gameworks - Bethesda Softworks engine creator, engine programmer

October 16, 2012 - Doom 3 BFG Edition; id Software -Bethesda Softworks technical director, engine programmer, developer

October 4, 2011 - Rage; id Software - Bethesda Softworks technical director, engine programmer, developer

The list of these older guys still very busy in the industry that are now passing on their genius to the younger programmers are too plentiful for me to even list.

11. Maybe the reason for more older people playing video games is people grew up with video games from an early age and has always been around them. Same reason Nintendo are so big in Japan, generation after generation growing up with Mario etc.

12. My above post was aimed toward the person that said "I think what some 40 something year old MS executive thinks is cool and what most of the younger generation thinks is cool is TWO different things...i wont hold my breath for these "cool" announcements."

Completely disrespectful, imo. These 40 & 50-somethings have devoted a good portion of their lives and talents (AND CONTINUE TO DO SO) to bringing us the games that we love so much.

@ Bizarro ahem cough, cough haven't you missed someone out of your list ? probably the most creative inspirational video game designer in all gaming history. A inspiration to so many within the gaming business including Peter Molyneux. A one and only Shigeru
Miyamoto a true god.

If a Nintendo fan or not no one can rule out his impact on gaming in general.
