lost wifi and wired Ethernet connection

    Hi

Havent used my xbox one for a while, machine turns on but appears to be stuck on initial set up .It cant find either wifi or ethernet wired connections though it is connected to my virgin "superhub" when accessed via the router via homeplugs but comes up
with "theres a hardware problem" on the screen.

    Many thanks

    :)

    Are you wired?

Sometimes you have to be wired. My consoles are setup in my basement and the wifi connection is awful down there. I had to buy a 50ft ethernet cable and run it down there so I can play online.

Stupid Question but advice is appreciated

I've been getting a lot of lag when online gaming. I currently use a wifi connection with my xbox one. I know a wired connection is always the best but have just opted for wifi based on convenience. Today I decided to order a 15ft ethernet cord off amazon. What's the best way to setup my wired connection. Should I go through my router or modem? To be honest I haven't used a wired connection since pre wifi days so can someone tell me what ports to plug into, and if going wired even makes a noticable difference.

Hard reset the console by hold the power button on the front for 10 seconds or until the unit turn off completely. Then remove the power cable from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Then plug it back up and power it back on and see if you have an
internet connection. Let us know. Good Luck!

Did you get the the 'hardware problem' error? If not would you please explain in detail what the console is doing. I am not real sure about what you mean by stuck on the initial start up.

One more thing. Try doing a power off / restart of your modem. See if that has any favorable results.

    Hello There:

As Genesis1953 has suggested, do a complete power cycle of your Xbox, unplug from the wall and from the back of the console for 10 minutes, then while continuing to have the Xbox 1 off, power off the modem, and leave that disconnected for a few moments.

Then, in this order, reconnect everything back up.

    1. Modem to Computer

    2. Power to Modem (If Not a Combination Router/ Modem Combination)

    3. Power to Router

    3. Next, power UP your computer and make sure that you have a valid IP address assigned to your PC - If win 7, check Internet Connection in System Tray - It should NOT have a RED "X" on it. Right Click the Internet Icon in System Tray, and open "Network
and Sharing Center" Find Your Local Area Connection, and if necessary, click "Details" Make sure that your IP address begins with 192.*.*.* - If it does, then you can proceed to Step 4 - IP addresses that start with 169.254.*.* will NOT allow connection.
If this is the case, you will have to make sure that you get a valid IP BEFORE attempting to connect up to XBL.

    4. Plug in the Xbox 1, power ON the machine by pressing the "X Box Button and allow it to come all the way up - Then go to Settings>Network and check to see that your IP address begins with "192.*.*.* - It may ask to connect to wireless networks, and the
password, and if it does, connect to your network.

    5. Sign in, and you should be Good to go lost wifi and wired Ethernet connection :)
