    You don’t necessarily have to buy a new adaptor there are other ways to connect an xbox controller to a pc like:

    Bluetooth or just using a cable.

    Have you tried using a headset adpator? Depending on the model of the controller you still would need one and that might be the issue. Also plug in your controller to the xbox with the headset plugged in and make sure it is updated

    For a basic barebones wireless connection you can use Bluetooth with a PC.

    Kinect chat instead.
