Lost gamer points due to sold console that shop never cleared

Hi.

I played in a Call of Duty wwii lobby yesterday Thursday 12th April.

To my astonishment I noticed another user with the exact same gamertag playing.

On further inspection and much head scratching I realised it must have been my old console Xbox One (black version).

I had traded that in last year against a white Xbox One S.

The store told me they would format my old Xbox before selling it. It appears this was never done?

I have sorted this issue out with Xbox support. They talked me through removing the old black console from my account.

However most of my gamer points were against the other console and now seem to be lost.

Xbox support told me to post this issue here.

I took screenshots with my phone of the gamertags ... They were presented in a split screen fashion on my Xbox when I looked at the other player in the game lobby.

Steam for Xbox One

It will never, never, never ever, ever happen, and I'll give you the one main reason why.

Microsoft gets a cut of every Xbox game sold, doesn't matter if its bought through the Xbox Store or from a shop, they get a cut.

If you were able to buy a game from Steam and then transfer it over to the Xbox, Microsoft wouldn't get that cut.

And it sold out here yesterday. As for coverage , the itv stuff in the last few years has been excellent but that production company has lost the rights so I reckon the coverage will get worse not better

 

Gamerscore is attached to your account. Your account is separate from the console. If you left your account logged in on the console when you sold it, it's possible that another user could use it. However if you change the password on your account they would
be logged out. Your account would be unable to log in and play at the same time as the other person on the same account.

Did you create a new account when you got a new console?

 

Like bowski477 said you can not be logged into 2 different xbox ones at the same time if your account signs in on a different console it will kick you off of your current console.

However it did happen to me.

Exact same account logged in twice at the same time. In the same game lobby.

And when I viewed the other player it brought up both accounts in split screen format side by side.

I identified it as my old one by the avatar.

So I understand that it shouldn't happen.

But it did.

And I took a screenshot just in case... So happy I did that now!

Btw are any of you official MS admins?

If so I can email the screenshots.

 

Sorry when I say the same account I mean the exact same Gamer Tag.

So in the same game lobby in Call of Duty WWII I played on the same team.

I took a screenshot of the game lobby to prove it.

I have double checked it over and over.

And if I look up my gamer tag it is showing my old avatar and not my new one. And it had the majority of my gamer points 12,303.

On my new console my gamer tag shows 300 odd gamer points.

 

It can not be the exact same gamertag there has to be some suttle difference in them again you can not be signed in with the same email and password on an xbox one console at the same time otherwise it will kick you out you can only be signed into one same
type of console at the same time ie.. one xbox one (whether it be a original xbox one, xbox one S, or xbox one X) or one 360 at a time now you can be signed into a 360 and an xbox one at the same time but not one of the same type.

And since COD WW2 is only on the ONE there is no way that you could possibly be signed into the same account on two different consoles so again there has to be a suttle difference in the gamertag somewhere.

Keep in mind with gamertags the system does not see spaces nor capitalization in gamertags so for instance gamertag, GamerTag, gamer tag, GAMERtag would all be the same account

But gam3rtag would be different then any of those

now when you signed in with your new console did you sign in with the same email and password that you had on your original account?

Did it make you create a new account?

When you got on your new console did it give you a different gamertag then you had on your old console then you picked a new one?

and like bowski477 said if its the same email account for both accounts once you go into account.live.com and change your password the other console should then require them to put the new password in when signing into the account and if they dont know it
then they wont be able to sign into that account. if they are still signing in after you changed the password then the email thats associated with that gamertag that they're signing into is not the same email as is on your current account.

 

I don't know what account I used in my old one. Just can't remember.

I believe I used the same one on the new one though, but cannot be 100% sure.

And I had my account not prompt for password.

Although I have since changed my password and also set the account to prompt for password every time on the Xbox now.

And just to clarify. Both are Xbox one's.

My old one was the original black Xbox One.

My new one is an Xbox One S.

And the gamer tags ARE the same.

I understand you say that they should never be.

But they are.

To me anyhow until there is some other logical explanation.

Actually does this prove I used the same account?

MS support asked me to log into my account.

They gave me a link that listed all my devices once I logged in.

My WIn 10 laptop was listed.

So we're my 2 Xboxes.

The old black Xbox One.

And also my new whitebXbox One S.

MS support got me to delete the old black Xbox One from my account.

They said that will sort the issue of the old console logging in automatically.

My problem now is the gamer points.

 

The only thing that will prevent them from logging in automatically would be for you to change your password on the account because the password would be saved to the console and once you change the password and they try and sign in it will look at the password
that saved on the console and if it doesnt match the new password then its going to ask them to input the new password.

If you dont change the password when it looks at the password thats saved on the console and it matches what they have in the account its going to let them just sign in.

all deleting it from your account means is that xbox is no longer registered to your account it does not remove your profile from that xbox.

When you sign into account.xbox.com to your account what is the Gamerscore that shows up there?

And again it is not possible to be signed into two different xbox ONE consoles at the same time.

 

I have also changed my password so that's good.

The one on the right was on my old black Xbox One.
