Loss of reflexes/dexterity/patience as I get older.

I'm only 22yrs old but over the past year or so I've noticed that I no longer have the reflexes, dexterity, or patience to play games like I used to. I'm assuming it's because I'm getting older and no longer have the time to sink into gaming like I used
to when I was a kid but it's still disappointing to say the least.

For example... I used to LOVE playing through the Call of Duty series, or any shooter series for that matter, on the hardest difficulty. I loved the challenge and dieing hundreds of times didn't phase me in the slightest. Now when I try to attempt the hardest
difficulties I struggle and that challenge I used to love has become nothing more than pure frustration and makes the game feel like a chore.

The same goes for the multiplayer. I was very big into the competitive scene of all of these games and loved going up against the toughest players and testing myself. I used to be a part of numerous clans and even played in a few Halo tournaments locally. I'm
still decent online but nowhere near as good as I used to be. My reflexes and aim seem to have gotten worse and I struggle to keep up with the kids that I used to be like. I still enjoying playing online but the competitive streak in me seems to have dissipated
    a lot.

This doesn't just apply to shooters though. I'm currently playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and recently completed Dante's Inferno, both of which are action/adventure games. Playing through these types of games nowadays on anything harder than Normal
is just not happening. The combos, QTEs, and reflexes required to successfully complete these games on Harder difficulties is just too much. I used to be able to complete any action/adventure game on the hardest modes and years ago games like Dark Souls, etc.
would've been the perfect game for me, but now I don't dare buy them because I know it won't be fun for me.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or do I just suck at gaming now? Gaming has become a relaxing hobby for me now instead of something I used to love for the challenge and competitiveness. I don't feel like I suck at gaming, but my tastes have definitely changed
and I no longer have the skills or patience to overcome the challenges in games nowadays. Maybe it'll come back but it doesn't seem likely.

    :)

Maybe you have had a stroke, its certainly not your age when you are only 22.

  5. @22, you're still a kid. The last thing you want to do is call yourself old at such a young age. Trust me. You'll have plenty of time to be old. Enjoy your youth while you can. You ain't seen nothin' yet. I'm "old" and I still destroy my 2 boys at COD......from
time to time. Sure, they beat me most of the time, but they play 10 times more than I do. Take away my job and responsibilities and let me play COD 10 hours a day and I guarantee I'd be a Call of Duty god. So would you. I'm 38 and and I'm in better shape
than most kids half my age. You're only as old as you feel.

    @THEOWNKILLER - Haha, no I didn't have a stroke.

@XxNappyDugoutxX - You're probably right, it's probably just the limited time I have to game nowadays which has hurt my gaming skills, it's just really irritating when I was used to being pretty good at most games to struggling.

  7. Yeah, but look at it this way. Now you have more time to be better at things that really matter. Back in the Counter Strike days I can remember me and my brother playing that stupid game for hours and throwing stuff and breaking things. It was fun but it
really wasn't. Fast forward all these years later and we both live on separate sides of the country and we play COD together and we both suck but we've never had so much fun playing games. Now we actually enjoy playing the games and we have more fun being
husbands and fathers anyways. Gaming is just something we do now to "AVOID" getting grey hair. Rather than the other way around.

People age differently. Maybe he's aging faster than the average person. I had a 25 year old friend that was already going bald and had a potbelly. If you don't take care of yourself, you'll need insulin and bifocals in a couple years.

I'm 33 years old and work 50+ hours a week plus have a household to maintain. I have plenty of time for games. If games no longer interest you as much as they used to, no big deal. It happens. But if you're trying to be like "Well I'm 22 so I'm a big adult
now and I don't have time for games". Well that just brings my palm to my face.

@BizarroMantis - Haha, I'm not aging fast. I can safely confirm that I have a nice full head of hair and no potbelly!

@Sword Style - I think that's definitely a possibility as well. I have lost a lot of interest in gaming but I've gotten the spark back recently, getting the Xbox One helped. I really started noticing my lack of patience with games while going through my
backlog of games recently. I had beaten all of the COD games on Veteran up until WaW, I just couldn't bring myself to beat it, it was beyond frustrating so I bumped it down. I would never had done that in the past.

I also don't have that "I'm a big adult now, no time for games" mentality. Some of us are just different I guess, I work 40-50 hour weeks and by the time I get off work, gaming is normally not on my top list of priorities. I've been working since I was 16
and had plenty of time back then, I guess I just spend more time doing other things nowadays.

It's not that you're getting older or losing interest in gaming. A lot of games coming out are the same recycled !@#$% over and over again. When ever I pick up a game that's different and unique, I immediately gain interest in that game and play it for hours.
It's just rare now to get that spark in games.

  14. It's just ur lack of time to play or practice.

I am a good example of this, I'm 24 and my gaming skills have fallen since having a 50-60 hour a week job. And my best friend is 22 and he has no job and his parents baby him still. All he does is play xbox and he is unstoppable a cod.

Before I had a job I used to play non stop like him and I would trample him, now I can't even put a bullet into him.

So it's just lack of time to play

  15. I`ve got loss of dexterity in my hands due to the beginnings of arthritis at 47, sometimes just trying to use the controller normally can be a struggle and painful too!

So I wouldn`t worry too much at only 22 if I were you.
