Expanding a game keeps it fresh. With games released frequently, the way to stay on top is to keep them coming back to play yours. Additional content can freshen a game up, and even breath new life into it. You don't have to pay for any additional content.

In a lot of ways the industry has very quietly created what can almost be described as a hybrid model, combining up front base discs and a FTP framework. Obviously, nothing is actually free. You pay for your base disc, but they cut out large chunks to
be sold back as episodes. If you like the base game enough, you buy in and get the rest. If not, then you've paid a lot less than those who get the full experience.

Look at Destiny. Fantastic game with more than a few flaws, and even hardcore fans admit that it feels incomplete. Most likely because everything that is missing will show up in the four sets of DLC and the large expansion. By my estimates, all this will
make Destiny a game with a price tag between $180 and $190 all told. Of course, at some point they will no doubt have some kind of Ultimate Edition with all this bundled together for those with the willpower to wait.

Is this the same Bioware who had the entire Javik character on the game disc of Mass Effect 3? Where a single change to a line of code would unlock him, all cut-scenes, and all his dialogue? The only thing not on the disc was the recruitment mission on Eden
Prime.

I'm 26. I consider that young. I have a 3 month old son. I live in the real world. But I don't complain about money. I'm not rich but I'm comfortable and I don't spend loads of money on stupid crap.

Welcome to the Next Gen!!

Who is to blame for all this DLC that really should be on the disc? unfortunately its us, the consumers. I remember an article a few years ago saying that "next gen" titles would be £10 more expensive, and there was uproar, rioting in the streets (virtually
of course) cats and dogs living together!!! (wait, this isn't ghostbusters)

Anyway, the developers saw this and obviously thought "we cant sell the games for £10 more because people wont buy them" so what have they done? cut parts out and then sold them back to us for £10 - £15.

It will become less and less of a problem as more and more people go to the next gen experience, with more customers of the next gen titles, the developers can cut the costs slightly. We saw it with the launch of the 360 and we'll see it again in a year
or so.

Unfortunately though, day one DLC is here to stay, developers have found that it makes them money (and lots of it) and they isn't going to quit until something changes, and that means us not buying "day one DLC"
