"Looks like you need to renew your Xbox Game Pass"

Try removing the account and download the account again. Then delete the game and re download it. I once had a similar bug, and re installing the game worked again. Also, was the game purchased on his account or someone's account?

Tried logging in and out and hasnt worked , he is using his account and the message comes up when he tries to play minecraft even though its not on gamepass

is it possible that he is using a different Microsoft account on his Xbox? that maybe either him or someone else logged into a different account on that Xbox console?

can you try logging out and logging into his account on his Xbox again?

also Minecraft is not on Game pass.

Game pass is not for purchasing games, Game pass lets people play games as long as it's not expired.

Try resetting the xbox or holding down on the power button for 30 seconds restart the console or reboot all modems and routers unplugged for 30 seconds then reconnect to the internet after that and still have a problem uninstall it and reinstall the game
and also check for game and console updates if yours still having trouble after that contact xbox support at support.xbox.com
