looking to get a headset...

I'm looking to get a headset for my xbox one, as I've got one of the new controllers with the 3.5mm jack, my question is, can I use ANY headset with this that has a 3.5mm jack, even if its one of those cheap $10 cellphone headsets, provided it has
the required 3.5mm jack?

New Headset

Looking to get a new wireless headset for my xbox 360. I already have turtle beach x41 so looking to upgrade and/or improve on this. Any suggestions?

a game and a headset would make up the price difference nicely, just looking for US to get a game

 

In theory you can use any 3.5mm 4 pole headphone jack (4pole should always have a microphone) however you need to make sure they are CTIA compliant. There's 2 standards of headphone jacks.

ok, in that case I think the $10 earbud/mic cellphone headset I saw across the street from me will do rather nicely.

 

ok..one further question, how do I tell what standard is used on a given headset?

 

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I do know however that you can get converters. Why they decided on 2 standards is a mystery to me.
