  1. Looking for an external hard drive confirmed to work with 360?

I have a couple of questions about this.

    - What external hard drives are known to work with the 360?, I'd like to stay away from Seagate due to issues with the 360.

    - What is the maximum external storage space allowed on the 360?

    - Is it safe to use a USB powered external hard drive with the 360's USB ports?

    - 5400 RPM vs 7200 RPM?, any difference on the 360?.

    :)

XBox One X and external drive

It was confirmed last night that any current external hard drive will work with the Xbox One X, however you may want to consider moving some of the games you play often over to the Xbox One X internal hard drive as it will probably load games quicker from
internal HDD than your external one.

External Hard Drive for XOne and PC?

    Hi,

I am looking into a new external hard drive for my Xbox one but before I purchased I wanted to know if an external drive that I format for my Xbox will also work to backup my PC?

    Thanks

This are good questions, you can see i recently posted about external drives as well...

    forums.xbox.com/.../2088463.aspx

I was advised that anything other than a Seagate should work, but nobody actually confirmed that any particular brand has worked for them.

The max size for external storage is 2TB.

I just assumed they were all powered off the USB. all the ones I looked at on Amazon were.

I was wondering about the RPM's myself. In general I'd think the faster the better, but I don't know that it would make a big difference in this application.

  5. Thank you, you were looking at the exact hard drives I was but I settled on the My Passport Ultra with the metal enclosure for a few dollars more for looks haha.

Unfortunately there seems to be some conflicting reports with the My Passport Ultra failing so I hope we have good luck with them.

What I'm going to do is do a full format to NTFS in Windows disk management then format it to Fat32 and finally let the Xbox 360 format it just to be on the safe side or just do a full Fat32 format and I'd recommend you do the same.

And some external drives do require its own power source for some reason but I think its rare, maybe it's for the 7200 RPM drives?

Also I don't think the RPM would make a difference now that I think about it, it doesn't with the PS3.

I read something online someplace about doing a fat32 format, but I don't really know if it's necessary. I was just kind of planning on plugging it into the 360 and see if it works, if not then I'll try formatting it.

Seagate work well with Xbox One but I was never able to get one to work with the Xbox 360. The issue is the sector size as formatted is too large and isn't supported by the 360.

I ended up using a Toshiba Canvio 2Tb drive that is USB only and it has worked well for the last 6 months.

2Tb is the largest drive the 360 supports.

You shouldn't need to pre-format the drive, the 360 will do that once it is plugged in.

Data transfer rate isn't really improved by a 7200 RPM drive as the USB 2.0 bus isn't fast enough to utilize the throughput. 5400 RPM drives will be just fine and a little cheaper.

This is the drive I am using

    HDD's compatible with the Xbox 360 s

External USB drives can work fine for storage, but there are certain 360 games and backwards compatible games that require an official MS hard drive because of the system files on them. If a game is asking for a hard drive, it is looking for a 360 drive.
