Looking at computer monitors...should I get 1080p or 1440p?

Hi all,

I'm looking at large (25-28') computer monitors which I plan on using for both xbox one gaming and general computer use. Would there be any issue getting a 1040p panel? Would the scaling add any negative graphical effects to gameplay? Or would the xbox look
best if I stuck with 1080p?

Xbox 360 and hdmi 1.4

Im curently looking at a new computer gaming monitor to play on the xbox 360 since my tv is old and not 1080p. Well it is sorta it upscales it from 1080i. Im looking at either the asus
PB278Q which has 2560 x 1440 or the gaming line monitors. What version of hdmi will xbox 360 work with? Also what would you recomend to play on. I cannot do 3d due to my head injury but I can get a 3d monitor and play it as normal. 300dollars is price
limit as I might get 2.

Need help

I was wondering if anyone here uses or has both hdtv and or computer monitior for use with 360. I have atm a Jvc 42 inch 1080i 60hhz I think that upscales it to 1080p. I was wondering if the new lcd 1080 tv or a computer monitor with 1080p is better than
one or the other. Any suggestions? If computer monitors are better I would love to hear the difference.

I think mid-paragraph you mean 1440p as in the thread title, not 1040p.

Presumably the monitor can run at the lower 1080p also, in which case there would be no issue. Check with the manufacturer that it supports 1080p inputs and you'll be good to go.

Hi,

A resolution of 1080P is 1920x1080, while 1440P is 2560x1440. Since your display doesn't support 1440P, the highest resolution would be 1080P.

To get 1440P would require a PC gaming monitor that supports that resolution.

This isn't accurate as my Xbox will support 120Hz at 1080p, but not 1440p which it should according to my monitors specs.

The Xbox One X supports 120hz only at 1440p and 1080p resolutions. It does not support 120hz at 4k. So unless your TV or monitor supports 1440p resolution (many don't), you will only get 1080p when selecting 120hz.

Hey, I hope you haven't bought a monitor going off of these suggestions. There is an issue with xbox one x. Even if you buy a monitor capable of 1440p and 144hz or better, the Xbox won't recognize this as possible, with a lot of monitors. There are multiple
threads on Xbox website with people having this problem. It'll allow you to select 4k at 60hz, 1080p at 120hz, or 1440p at 60hz. So with that in mind you should either get a 4k monitor and use 60hz, or save some money and get a 1080p monitor that use 120 hz.
Don't do like I and many others did, which is research and buy a monitor that does 1440p@144hz, then end up not being able to use it. And Microsoft support has no answer to this problem. Many users say they use the HDMI port and a PC and get it to work, then
xbox says your monitor can't support 120hz at 1440p resolution. Microsoft finally said the system won't recognize it depending certain coding used by the monitor manufacturers, but it's no way to know before purchasing it, unless you find a YouTube video showing
it working on a specific monitor. So if you want 120hz, get a 1080p monitor that does it, or go 4k@60 of you want the better resolution.
