LOL. Bungie's Tolling Farmers. (Spoilers... Sort of)

So it looks like if you farm the cave in Skyfall long enough eventually a couple hundred Fallen and Hive will spawn at your left and right and start fighting with each other, and you are smack dab in the middle of it. Seriously, they spawn for like 5 minutes
straight and just completely overwhelm you. They're not especially tough, there are just so, so, so many of them. I guess this is something relatively new, as I never saw it before? I haven't farmed there in several days then last night it happened twice.
Kudos to Bungie for finding interesting ways to mess with players. I got a kick out of it.

I've been saying Destiny should add a Horde mode.. and this is pretty much it. I've recently started farming there and I've had this happen several times. I find it very fun, I just activate Blade Dance and go crazy on them. They tend to not even make it
out of the spawn rooms. You'll get a message at the bottom of the screen saying "the enemies are moving against each other" (or something) and at first the enemies aren't tough at all but over time they all become 'resist' shielded, gold barred enemies, and
in great numbers.

Really they just add a Horde mode..

 

I mentioned this little mini event in the Xbox one forums and someone said that it wasn't new and that happened to them before the loot cave craze. It is still pretty cool though. Its only happened to me once.

I'll show you it tonight. Sorry about last night. That was total BS that you didn't get anything on that Queen's Wrath story mission we did beat. If I could give you the armor I got I would.

Also, how are you doing on Vanguard marks and Vanguard reputation? If you have enough you're guaranteed to at least be able to buy a couple of legendary items from the Tower class vendors.

34? Ah hell... we're going to have to fix that. If the loot cave is shut down I'll show you how to farm for boxes to get spinmetal. You should easily be able to max out the 100 mark limit pretty quickly by collecting spinmetal. It's kind of boring so
what I tend to do is collect spinmetal for about half an hour then go do other stuff (strikes, bounties, missions, etc.).

Your reputation is shown at your class vendor in the Tower (the staircase that goes down below by where the bounty guy is). Go talk to your vendor and to the left is a circle showing your reputation level. You need level 2 to start buying Legendary armor
with marks. Reaching level 3 will automatically earn you a random Legendary weapon, and I think level 3 is what allows you to start buying Legendary weapons from the Vanguard Quartermaster.

To earn reputation you can do a bunch of stuff. Bounties seem to be the fastest IMO, so make sure to do all the Vanguard bounties as often as you can, but you can also gain rep by doing strikes, patrol missions, random public events, and weekly/daily events.

You'll only receive a reward for doing the Queen's missions if you have a "Queens Wrath" in your inventory, which you get for completing the Queen's bounties.

 

I just read that article linked by C45. Yeah. The loot cave has been deactivated. I'm not really upset about it, as I probably spent a total of like 2 and a half hours there. The only 3 Legendaries I got from there that stuck were 2 armor pieces for different
classes and a duplicate of the "Doctor Nope" auto rifle I already have. Everything else I'm using was bought with marks, rewarded for the Queen's strike or rewarded for reaching Rank 3.

Bungie shutting it down has got me thinking though... maybe what they need to address isn't the exploit itself, but some of the problems with the game that drive players to use that exploit? I feel like the reward/loot system in this game could be a lot
better.

First off, the random Legendary drop rate is pretty terrible. That's mostly what drove people to use the cave in the first place. Legendary's should drop more often, especially considering the fact that you're likely to get a freaking rare (blue) item
when you decode it. The reward system in relation to the time played could stand to be tweaked a little. Just give the players a little nugget here and there to keep them interested.

With more chances for Legendary gear, more variance for unique gear should be added. The only way you're guaranteed to get Legendaries is to buy them with marks. And your options are limited to 2 guantlets, 2 chests, 2 legs and 2 helms. Part of the intrigue
of playing an RPG is to have a unique character. With the way the Legendary armor purchase is set up, you have 2 choices for visual difference and ability... and every other player of your class has those same 2 choices. It's way too homogeneous. A large
array of different looks and abilities for armor needs to be offered to buy with Marks. Maybe I dunno... actually have the stock refresh for the class vendors?

And IMO, the content needs balanced. You can only do the same strikes and missions so often before they get stale. It's risky to turn such a massive game into a grind in order to keep players playing. More random events while patrolling and more variance
in the story/strike missions would help. And matchmaking for Weekly/Nightfall strikes is a must. It's such a pain in the rear to not be able to do these either because no one is on the same time as me, or the ones that are on aren't a high enough level.


Fortunately I know Bungie has more up their sleeve and it's only been out a couple weeks. I know they are going to make tweaks here and there, and I suspect they are going to open up new areas and add more events eventually. Queens Wrath is an ok start,
but I know there are going to be some much cooler events over time. There are spots I've found while patrolling that they obviously have a plan for, but aren't currently being used in any strikes or story missions.

 

There's already new loot farms up as of 1900. You will never shut down the loot farms while there is such a grind to go from 20-24 where you can get more content. Just go on YouTube and search destiny new magic cave. Select today as your search and boom
