    My son and I use the same account, but now he's 13. (You can probably see where this is going.) To get things done around the house, I restrict his time on the XBOX, and prevent him from using the xbox by installing a passkey. Otherwise, like most teenagers,
    he would sit and play all day long. Recently, he asked what the passkey was so he could log on to his account, (which I revealed in a moment of weakness and his assurances that he wouldn't abuse the privilege) and then he changed it. I escalated by deleting
    his profile.

    Then I wondered, "I wonder if a guest or for that matter, ANYONE can start the XBOX and delete any profile found there?"

    So, without logging into my account, and from the settings screen, I attempted to delete my own account...as it turns out, you can!

    Is there any way to protect a profile from deletion, even if there is no other user on the account? I see this as a gaping hole, at the moment. Please advise.

    Every game is tied to my account, right? and all the saves are stored in the cloud?

    Just log out of my account before I trade the console in and I'm good to go?

    Doesn't this work exactly the same way as PSN. It isn't your Xbox that has an account it is YOU the gamer have an XBL account.

    YOU log into YOUR ACCOUNT on your XB360 and it works.

    YOU log into YOUR ACCOUNT on another XB360 and it works

    YOU log into YOUR ACCOUNT on XB1 and it works.

    Usually when you're signed out like this it means you're being signed in somewhere else. Are you using the app or signed in on another device somewhere ?

    explains the elsewhere signing     out message you are receiving, it should help leading you to getting it solved too, i hope this gets fixed for you i know it can be extremely annoying

    Sorry to hear/read you having problems try logging into your email address that the account is linked to on mircosoft account. Press the image that appears in the right top and go to mircosoft account and go to security that should help you get it sorted
    out :).

    Xbox Gamertag on wrong email ?

    Go on your Xbox console, to Settings --> Account --> Account Security. On the right side of the screen, it will say "Current Microsoft Account". That's the email you log in with on xbox.com. Check it carefully for typos.

    How do I delete my account

    There is a method to completely close out an MS account.

    Log in to your Microsoft account.

    go to security and privacy select more security settings. Click "Close your account".

    I suggest you review what it means to completely close out the account prior to doing this.
