Locked Region & Giftcards

Hi,

I'm having trouble with gift cards, i can't buy it in my country(Malaysia) somehow, I'm trying to buy a game on Microsoft store for someone else in another country which is in Indonesia, I wanted to ask if 'region' meaning continents? and if i ever get to buy a Xbox gift card or Microsoft gift card, will it be region/country locked? if so is there any possible way to buy applications for someone from a different country but in the same continent?

When i click the second option, it sent me to a page which says that the page doesn't exist or something. When i click the first one, the region and everything is in the United States which isn't possible for me to purchase.

Overall i just wanted to find a way to buy a Xbox or Microsoft gift card in my country(Malaysia) for someone else in another country(Indonesia) to redeem it and get the apps on Microsoft store

Did you buy the correct regional giftcards?

All giftcards are region locked

Meaning you cannot buy uk or french giftcards and use them in a german account for example

So if you buy uk points it can only be redeemed on an uk account

You can check your balance at commerce.microsoft.com

Keep in mind currency does not transfer between regions

Since you're in an unsupported region, you would have to try purchasing from another retailer. However, Indonesia is also not supported, so it's not guaranteed any gift cards will work for them.

Another thing is your account region Match your actual region for example you have a us xbox live account but you are redeeming an Canadian gift card

If so that would be why

So if I shouldn't worry about region lock that much then? If I buy a xbox digital giftcard from amazon and i try to activate the code for it it should work normally if my account is registered to U.S Region then the U.S Region giftcard will work fine ? and my payment method will go through my paypal that i added as long as i have money on it right?

I am sorry, but I believe it won't work the codes are Regionally locked.

"When you purchase a Microsoft or Xbox gift card, make sure that the currency you use matches the currency associated with the recipient’s billing account. Otherwise, the recipient will be unable to redeem the gift card."
