Locked out of Microsoft account with old phone number, phone rejected (but I have the email)

Did you have two-factor authentication (2FA) active on the account? If you do have the 2FA active, are you able to access the second factor of authentication? If so, please try resetting your password. Important: The account recovery form can only be used if two-step verification isn't turned on.

The system works on probability. Please keep trying. Consistent attempts will lead to recovery.

Microsoft takes account security very seriously, that's why Account Recovery is an automated process with no human influence. If you don't have the correct information, you may not be able to get through account verification using the Recovery Form.

The Account Recovery Form requires adequate information to prove that you are the owner of the account. The Account Recovery Process can be a time consuming process, but providing as much info as possible from the start of the process will increase the possibility of being verified by the automated process. You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft.

Remember to use a familiar device from which you've frequently accessed your Microsoft account, as well as a familiar location. Microsoft will review your responses and respond within 24 hours. Athough that may have helped while we were trying to validate, my email and phone number have already been validated, my boyfriends email and phone number are being rejected, and neither can be entered again. From what I understand, his account is totally
unusable unless we get a third phone number or make another email address, as It won't accept what we already registered as good enough.

I so not have the security information, i have the password and the email and the 2fa code methods are my phone number and my phone number, nothing else. I locked myself out lmao.

I am very sorry for the problem you are going through, with the intention of being able to help you I did an internal search in Microsoft support and I found a publication where they mention how to change the phone number registered in the Microsoft account and I thought it was good information, which you should consider:

Steps to do it with a mobile:

Go to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft (https://account.live.com/names/Manage)">https://account.live.com/names/Manage) and sign in to your account.

Select Add Email or Add Phone Number and we'll take you through the process of checking your contact details and adding it to your account.

To make the new email or phone number the primary alias, select Make Primary.

You will then have the option to remove the old email address or phone number from your account.

Note: To ensure that users can't search for you in Microsoft Teams (free) by your old email or phone number, you'll need to remove it from your account. Remember that you can't remove a primary alias without having another phone number or email in your account, so you must add the new alias before removing the old one.

To ensure that your changes are reflected in Microsoft Teams (free) on your mobile device, uninstall the app and reinstall it from the Google Play Store (https://aka.ms/androidteams) or iOS App Store (https:// aka.ms/iosteams).

Once the app is reinstalled, sign in to Microsoft Teams (free) with your new email or phone number.

To change the phone number through a PC:

It's easy to update or change the email address or phone number associated with your Microsoft account.

I didn't have a phone number associated it recently asked me to add one but says it will take 30 days to change the old (deleted) email to a phone number to use as a recovery method.

Do I actually have to wait a month to log into the account...

We logged in to the xbox with the correct credentials in the usual location so i'm not sure why it even asked for a two factor authentication that now has us locked out.
