Live update corrupting Profile data on USB memory. unpleasant

oh! I will look into that suggestion. Initialy I had a console from about 2009 or there-abouts and it got some chronic red-ring issues after a year and had to be abandoned. I then switched the memory unit to my friends borrowed machine which have used
offline for several years. I hope thats not it. It does look pretty glum.

Was there a specific reason why the other console had no internet connection? There is a reason why I ask this.

If the other 360 without internet was a console that was somehow modified (e.g. to play unsigned code or copied games), the digital signage on your USB drive is being flagged as untrustable by any console with proper Xbox Live connection and latest updates.

So if the offline console was a modified console, then the "broken" trust on the modified data of the USB stick broke your profile during the update. Not the update itself.

Unfortunately, if your profile was never online, and the other console doesn't have the profile on it's hard drive as well, then I'm afraid your profile is now lost

1. To make sure you have the most recent updates on the console go to System/ Network/ Select your network and then test your connection to Xbox live this should download any updates that your console needs. May also be worth having a look in the console
Memory for corrupt data, System/ Settings/ Storage or memory, then just quickly check all the Gamer profiles and save data for corrupt data, it will be marked with an explanation mark ! if you have any delete it. Then re-test your connection to Live and try
to download your profile again.

2. Should this still fail try clearing the Cache and downloading your profile again, Settings/ System settings/ Select storage or memory, highlight the storage you want then push Y on controller/ Select clear System cache when prompted push yes

It was prob a bad install of the update. Ive read somewhere theres a code to clear off failed updates (not the clear cache code) off you harddrive so you can retry it. Retrying to install it with the corrupted update data still on the HDD is prob causing
it to fail. Id call xbox support. Or if you can find a 1gb or more USB drive and use it as a memory card put ur profile on it and remove the harddrive then try to update.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a cloud option. My two Xboxes are many miles apart, and I have already experienced data corruption and loss of a family member's offline profile while trying to move it from one console to the other with a USB memory stick.
