Live TV Quality Degrades After Update

Glad im not the only one. Hope the update fixes it.

Sorry to hear about the TV quality issues . We have notified the right folks about this issue and we're looking into this further. I recommend first trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if the issue continues.



Please give the following steps a try:

• Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 10 seconds.
  
• Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.
• Wait 3 minutes and then plug in your console.
• Check your HDMI cables to make sure they're securely connected to your devices and free from damage.
  
• Try using a different high-speed HDMI cable. Some cables are higher-quality than others, and low-quality cable can impact your video signal.
  
• Try power cycling your set-top box to clear out incorrect data configuration data. To do this, disconnect any cables (including power cables) from the device for 1 minute. Then, plug the cables back in.
  
• Try setting your set top box to a video output of 720p.
• Disable multichannel surround sound (such as Dolby Digital or 5.1).

I am having this issue too! Here's my setup - directv (genie - HR44) via HDMI to Xbox One; Xbox One via HDMI to my Yamaha receiver, Yamaha receiver via HDMI to Vizio tv. I have monster HDMI (black platinum) for all connections as I wanted to see if one
of my cables was causing the issue. The configurations I tried was DTV directly to TV and through Receiver, both provided high quality video so it is pointing the issue to the Xbox One. I am experiencing the jittering ticker on sports stations and the live
sports video is awful. It feels like I am watching a low quality internet feed rather than live sports. I've also tried all of the error resolution steps discussed above with no luck. When I do this, the picture will improve temporarily and then revert
back to poor quality. Before you mention I paid too much for the HDMI cables, I can honestly say I do see an improvement in picture, mostly with dark scenes. With my old cables, the dark areas of the picture would show "pixelation" and now with the monster
cables this has gone away.

It appears MS is aware, so hopefully they are working on a fix or pulling back the September rollout until they can fix this. It is really frustrating as I had to remove the DTV connection to the Xbox One. I really like the integration through the Xbox
One, but with poor video I am forced to change to a multi-input configuration.

Good news. Hope the update fixes it.

 

just bought the xb1 today and it did an update straight away, it look so choppy and dark running my humax freeview through it - couldn't tolerate it permanently, hope there is a fix soon whilst i am in my 30 day return window

 

I too have the directv hr44-200 and have compression of the video image mostly on backgrounds where there isn't any movement. It will downsize gradient fills down to a few colors instead of a nice blend. Very noticeable on the golden fill that comes out
from behind the ABC logo during their commercials. It will have 6 or 7 distinct rings, each a solid color, around the logo.

It's nice gradual shading going from the hr44 directly to the tv, but as soon as you go from hr44 to the x1 then to the tv, it's back.

I also just notice that the tv video is slightly ahead of the sound, by a few ms, but noticeable enough.

Is the update propped yet?

Can we force the update now, or do we have to wait for it to automatically be downloaded?

What are the steps to see what version of the TV is running?

Is the fix in the TV App or some other component?

 

Hey Kelly! The update should be ready for download!

To force the update, simply sign in on your Xbox One console, go to Settings, then select "System". In the bottom left-hand corner you should see "Update console" as an option!

It will take a little time to be sure the issue is fixed. It has been coming an going all night while watching the Mariners. I good test will be the next baseball game, though I feel like if it's really fixed the problem will just be gone for all shows regardless.
(Was surprised when it happened watching an old B&W movie on TCM. My wife said everything looked like an old football film, which was a pretty good description.)

It looks like this update (6.2.11511.0 (xb_rel_1409.140829-1829) fre) has fixed the issue for me. Live television (The Today Show) and sports on the sports channels (MLB, NFL, Tennis Channel, etc.) look crisp and HD again.

Props to the team for getting this fix out and listening to us loyal fans! =)

 

looks to have fixed the stuttering, but hasnt fixed the "black crush" (the darkening of the picture) issue, i truly hope the hdmi color space/black crush issue is something that is known about and will be looked at

 

I checked out my system during lunch today and all seems well with the new update. The sport channels video are crisp and the ticker feed at the bottom of the screen is smooth!

Did the update just now, and the "crush" remains. Did not fix my problems.
