I have my Comcast cable box HDMI output going into an HDMI splitter. From the splitter I have output 1 going to my TV directly while output 2 goes to the HDMI input on my XBOX ONE and then to my TV. I do this so my wife doesn't have to turn on or use the
    XBOX ONE for TV.

If I switch back and forth between the TV's HDMI inputs (cable box vs. XBOX ONE), I can see that the XBOX one's image is darker. This is easy to confirm, just pause live TV with an image that has some darker elements and switch between the XBOX and cable
    box.

I imagine there is some sort of gamma conversion going on for the XBOX's image. Is this a known issue? I lose a lot of detail in the image when watching TV through the XBOX so I find myself not using it.

Please fix this! The XBOX shouldn't alter my HDMI input like this.

    :)

HDMI throughport for TVs with Game Mode

Not sure I explained it clearly enough. My TV has 3 HDMI inputs, all of which can be configured for PC, Game Mode, TV etc etc. The Game Mode makes the XBOX input fill the screen and overall looks better than say in TV mode. So if the input from the XBOX
One is set to Game Mode, then I switched the XBOX One to throughput the TV signal, then I would be watching the preset HDMI in Game Mode even though I was watching a TV/Tivo channel, if that makes sense.

    .

    So to recap

    .

My TV has one HDMI port set to TV input and another one set to Game Mode input, and I simply change the input depending on wether it is a game I want to play or a TV channel to watch.

    .

But if one HDMI input is being used by both XBOX One and a TV signal input, then the TV's HDMI port setting will only default to the one I set it to in the first place

    .

So it is the TV that determines what display I will get regardless of what signal the XBOX One sends.

    .

If that doesn't confuse you then nothing will, already getting a headache just re-reading it

Unreal Oblivion, I have things you may want to try:

    1. What is your RGB scale to (a setting on the cable box)?

    2. What is your layout (what is connected to what)?

    3. What is the Aspect Ratio set to (a setting on the cable box)?

Those are all the questions I have at the moment, let me know!

    -Cheers

  5. Hi XB1R Hermes,

    1) Not sure about my RGB scale, I can check when I get home in a couple hours.

    2) Layout is (all connections via HDMI):

Cable Box --> HDMI Splitter --> TV

    --> XBOX ONE --> A/V Receiver --> TV

    3) I think the aspect ratio on the cable box is 16:9 but again I can check when I get home.

With regards to #2 I realized that my receiver is also in the way; so I will connect the XBOX ONE directly to the TV tonight to eliminate the possibility that my receiver is making the image darker.

  6. 1) The color space on my cable box is YCC 4:4:4 (the other option I can select is RGB).

    3) The option for "TV Type" on my cable box is 16:9

  7. Please try to minimize the hops (remove the splitter and AVR) until a control can go. Thanks for the info thus far, please let me know what happens.

What do you mean "until a control can go"? I removed the AVR BTW, same issue. Thanks for the help XB1R!

  9. What I mean my until a control can go: is forming a control (like, we know that this particular setup runs perfect, then add variables until it does not work anymore).

    -

The setup I would like you to try is: Cable box HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV. No splitters/hubs. HDMI cable that came with the Xbox going to the Cable Box.

    -

    After trying above...

    - Try RGB (does it give an option for full, or some restricted version of this?)

    - It should be set ideally for 16:9, so that should be fine.

    -

No worries on the help, I want this awesome feature to work for everyone with out exception (although I know we are not 'there' yet. We are working hard to get 'there'). Let me know!

    -Cheers

  10. Makes sense. Yes I'll try the setup you mention above. It will be more difficult for me to compare differences in the image without the splitter but I'll make do Live TV input to XBOX ONE looks darker than expected. :).

For my cable box (Motorola DCX3400) I only have two color options: "RGB" and "YCC 4:4:4".

The manual for my box is here and it explains some of the options I was talking about on pages 31 and 37:

  11. I did CABLE HDMI XBOX HDMI TV and the image is still darker (no splitter). I changed the cable box's color space to RGB and that didn't make a difference either.

Are you able to repro this? It's really easy to see if you have add an HDMI splitter .

I'm noticing my Cable is darker (crushed blacks) and the picture quality is degraded (more pixelated, improper color gamut) when plugging my X1 Comcast cable box directly into the Xbox one when compared to just plugging in my cable box directly to the TV.

The Xbox one at least for the X1 cable box is not correctly passing through the cable it is somehow degrading the signal.

Unreal, have you tried going through the Settings > Display and sound > Calibrate HDTV?

  14. Also, using less than 2.0 HDMI cables has been a contribution to issues I have been seeing.

  15. SWANLEE, yes that is the same issue I'm seeing too. I suspect its some sort of gamma correction on the Xbox itself.

XB1R, Yes I have done "Calibrate HDTV" but doesn't that only check settings on the TV? My HDTV settings are fine (I've had it calibrated and fine tuned all the settings on it long before the XBOX ONE).

I don't have any HDMI 2.0 cables. Is the cable that comes with XBOX ONE an HDMI 2.0?

Have you been able to repro this XBR1? It's REALLY easy to see if you pause a DVR on a screen with some blacks. Please fix this! XBOX shouldn't be changing the output of my cable box.
