Unfortunately if you do receive the refund it will be sent back to the payment instrument that was initially used. If you used Microsoft currency then the currency will be added back to your account but if you purchased using a debit/credit card then
you will be refunded to that card.

Xbox Customer Support won't be able to redirect the refund to a different payment instrument.

You can try contacting support and speak to billing, but since they no longer hand refunds directly I'm not 100% sure it's something they could do. http://support.xbox.com/contact-us

i appreciate the response, but is there any way i can request that any refund given be credited directly to my XBL account, rather than the cards that were used? the reason i ask is that one of the cards was a non-reloadable gift card. If they try to refund
to the card for the non-gift purchase i made, then both myself and XBL will be out 50 bucks, and that just sucks for everyone involved.

if it goes straight to my XBL account, i will gladly spend it on more XBL purchases.

Thanks for reaching out to us in the Xbox forums with this question. In regard to refunds, the amount refunded will be via the same method used for purchase. If you paid using Microsoft account credit, then that will be refunded as Microsoft account
credit. The refund team, if you filled out an online refund web form, should be able to let you know a determination in about 24-72 hours after your submittal.

There's different options depending on your region. Usually the easiest way is to go to support.xbox.com then contact us, billings issues, other, then there should be an option to request a call.
