Live Gold Trial - how to cancel?

I signed up for a 14 day trial on Live Gold with my new XBOX One S. The code was accepted and it says it expires on Feb 9th, as expected.

My issue is that this trial is not showing up as a subscription in my Microsoft Account so there's no way for me to cancel it. Under Services and Subscriptions it still shows Live Gold as an option to sign up for.

I had hoped the trial would allow me to get the current bonus Gold games but it appears not as it wants to charge me for them when I try to download. My concern is that its now going to auto renew my trial and charge my PayPal account at the end of the trial
and I don’t have any way to cancel it.

The help link for "Manage My Subscription" on the xbox.com site takes me to the Services and Subscriptions page I mentioned above.

I tried online support on chat and the guy I got was hopeless.

You would need to contact support again if you can't cancel it via the website

They are the only ones with access to your billing info.

You need a full gold membership in order to download games with gold.

As I mentioned, they were hopeless.

The guy said I would need to sign up for Live Gold at the end of my trial - basically completely not reading my issue at all. He seemed surprised when I asked what if I didn't want to sign up.

He was stumped by the question and gave no option for cancellation. As I said, hopeless.

Since a trial is not an actual gold subscription, you wouldn't have anything to cancel. It also wouldn't turn on auto-renewal.

I checked my gold tenure on the link eG x Thee Elf posted and mine says

but yet I have no number next to my name

The free month of Xbox Live gold can be applied from the account creation process if you are making a new account.

If you already have a Microsoft account and don’t have an active Xbox Live Gold paid subscription, you may be able to sign up for an Xbox Live Gold one-month free trial subscription.

Here’s how to sign up:

Sign in to the Subscriptions page with your Microsoft account.
If you’re eligible for a free trial, you’ll see Gold – 1 Month FREE Trial as a subscription offering. Select Gold – 1 Month FREE Trial, and then select Next.
If prompted, add a payment option to your account. If you already have a payment option on file, you can use that.

Important At the end of the first (free) month, your trial subscription automatically turns into a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription that renews monthly by default. The paid Xbox Live Gold subscription will renew to the payment option you
added to your account.

If you don’t want the Xbox Live Gold one-month free trial subscription to renew, you must cancel it. See “How to cancel an Xbox Live Gold trial subscription,” below.
