If your console included an Xbox Live Gold subscription, it will be on a leaflet inside the box. If a subscription was not included with your bundle, then you will need to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription separately, in order to access the Xbox Live
Gold benefits.

Thanks for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that your friend is being asked to purchase Xbox Live Gold when he tries playing with you. The multiplayer features of Xbox Live require that both accounts have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. An
account that doesn't have an Xbox Live Gold subscription can still play online if another

account that does have Xbox Live Gold is sharing it through the home console feature. Your friend will need to get Xbox Live Gold in order to play with you. We hope this information helps
