Linksys E4200/Bell Modem Open NAT Issue Xbox One

I currently have a linksys e4200 router and a bell modem, the bell home hub 2000. The modem has a wireless router feature but has been disabled long time ago. I am certain that i have had a open nat for a long time but recently i have noticed my NAT is moderate.

When i try and port forward the required ports for xbox live, my router just stops functioning properly and all my devices at home have an issue with connecting to the router unless i reset the router all over again.

I am finding it difficult to properly follow guides on google as there is a LOT of conflicting information or people who are not explaining it properly. I need to know what i can do to ensure that my xbox can have the open nat it had in the past. if there
are optimal settings for the router I need to know about to ensure my gaming experience is tip top please do let me know ! i am desperate ....

    again..the setup is as follows...

    Linksys E4200 Router

Bell HomeHub 2000 Modem (Wireless Router Feature DISABLED)

    Xbox One

    Cheers !

    :)

  2. Nat Type Moderate on Xbox One.

What Country/State/Province do you live in? USA

Modem brand & model number: Motorola SB6120

Router brand & model number: Linksys E4200

    Wired or wireless: Wired

    Things you have tried:

I very briefly got a Open Nat when forwarding the ports after I did the "easy" fix. It then gave me a "You Nerwork is benhind a cone NAT". It went back to moderate after i checked it again one minute later.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Router suggestions for multiple console support.

I have a Linksys E4200 and having NAT issues on some consoles. I have 3 Xb1 and 1 PS4. I need a router that can support multiple consoles without having NAT issues. Thank you.

Is your Bell home Hub operating in bridge-or passthrough -mode, or did you simply disable the radio along with NAT?

If you could wire your console directly to the Bell home Hub, does is still get diagnosed with a moderate NAT?

On your Linksys router, I advice you to turn off Block/Filter Anonymous Internet Requests.

Also make sure your Linksys is operating with the latest version of firmware.

Additional, whilst troubleshooting, make sure to set your console's power energy mode to energy-saving mode

I disabled the wireless router on the bell modem, i dont think it had the option for bridge or pass through to be disabled but not sure.

i haven't tried wiring console to modem since the modem is in my furnace room of the basement so its highly inconvenient as i cannot find a tv or power to plug in.

in terms of internet requests filter, what does that do ? mine is enabled but before i disable what does it do ?

Ok. Is the modem deployed by your ISP. If so, reach out to your ISP and consult with them how to properly operate your modem in bridge mode.

Turning off the radio isn't sufficient enough.

Let us know how it goes.

As I have mentioned, it has been placed in bridge and radio turned off. both steps are initiated at once from their side when you have them do it. I have it totally off and only operating as a modem. Also, does UPnP help ? I heard that this setting should
    be off??

The Filter Anonymous Internet Requests feature filter out any ICMP type traffic that hasn't been initiaded from a source IP speaking device on your local network, and to a host IP speaking device located on the Internet, and for subsequent return traffic.

This feature could have a negative impact on the process on how your console determines the NAT behaviour of the NAT device that it sits behind. For example, the discovery process of a Teredo relay, as well as the qualification procedure uses ICMP.

Just to verify that your Bell HomeHub is actually operating in bridge mode, follow the steps up front.

Login to your Linksys and find the WAN/Internet address (the address assigned by your ISP). Take note of the WAN/Internet IP address and go to
Current IP Check and verify if these two addresses match, or if they don't match.

What energy mode is your console currently set to (Instant-on or Energy-power saving)?

Is it by running the 'Multiplayer Test' that your console get diagnosed with moderate NAT, or from within a game?

If you go to Xbox Network Settings and run the 'Multiplayer Test'. After this test has finished, press and hold (simultaneously) LB+RB+LT+RT and let us know what NAT type it discovers.

In regard to UPnP on your Linksys, have it ticked enable.

Add your Xbox's MAC address to the priority list under the modem settings. Most gateway's today have "game" settings that are easy to manipulate but some don't. Let me know if you've tried this... I'm a cable technician and a gamer at heart so I've had
the same struggles and I've overcome them all.

If I could ask, what issues are you having with a "moderate" NAT? Moderate is a pretty common thing and shouldn't really affect a whole lot of gaming quality but I don't know your issue. Let me know and I'll help however I can.

also I am a little lost with the step you suggested with the Wan of my router... I have never had issues on this front so I am not sure how this will help me. secondly, my router doesn't show me the IP you are asking me for to see if they match, I see the
    typical 192.168 etc

Matty, I added my xbox under priority it doesn't do anything. moderate slows down session joined times and makes it very difficult at times to be able to join parties or I experience time outs

Gat, a moderate NAT can cause some of those things but it typically doesn't ruin the game experience in its entirety. The priority listings you can use allow the internet connection to hit your Xbox first to give you a better connection quality. You should
really try what Taidara suggested and change your "Instant-On" power setting to "Power Saver" mode. For whatever reason, there have been a lot of documented issues with Linksys E4200's UPnP settings not agreeing with the power mode. Try changing that and
doing a power cycle. I have a Linksys E4200 at home personally. When I get home tonight, I'll take some screenshots of my settings and shoot them to you here... Maybe It will help if the power mode does not. Also, is this a "Call of Duty" NAT issue or is
it a different game you're playing that's giving you grief? CoD has been notorious for throwing out bad NAT information...
