Lightning just fried my Xbox One

I believe I may be the first for this to happen to but lightning struck my house today and either shot my power supply or the whole console. We are waiting to see what renters insurance says but Microsoft says it is a warranty covered cause so thats good!!
Figured I'd share my bad luck of the day!!

    :)

Xbox 360 won't connect with an ethernet cable and won't use the wireless card

thanks for your help guys but nothing here fixes it im pretty sure something is fried in my xbox . I think because I connect directly rather than using wireless a surge traveled my ethernet cord during a lightning storm and just fried my card

  3. 4 red rings

Okay i'm going to try and explain what happened as best as possible. We had a thunderstorm here tonight, lightning struck and the bright yellow light on the little box that plugs into the back of the xbox started blinking. It also sounded like something
popped in there when the lightning struck. My xbox wouldn't turned on so I tried plugging my xbox into my brothers box and the four red rings showed up. I know everything is plugged in properly I just think that the component that the plug goes into was fried
along with the box. Any suggestions? My brother also tried to turn his on and has 3 red rings. So i'm assuming that the lightning strike hit the house and fried the xbox's.

Dude that stinks. Thankfully lightning is extremely rare here. Hopefully you get it fixed soon.

  5. I live in Florida - when it comes to lightning, I don't take chances. All of my entertainment devices are hooked up to a backup battery supply and surge protector. Lightning just fried my Xbox One :)

Thanks y'all! And everything is on a surge protector oddly. It was a direct hit to my room however so I believe I understand this situation. Also fried my 40" and a few other things in the house. It literally shot the power brick on my cable box to pieces
and I'm being serious...like pieces all the way across the room!

  7. Oh man that's bad luck dustin, sorry to hear this. Where I live in Aus is hot and stormy all year round, I'm in a T-shirt right now in the middle of winter. Lightning actually freaks me out a bit now tbh, I've always feared blowing up electronics.

Dude I feel sorry for you. I learn from my parents and others to surge protect my computer and important electrical stuff. My Xbox 360, Xbox 1, PVR, and laptop, I always connect to a surge protector power board. I brought it from a major retailer in my country
(DSE) who say they provide up to a $10,000 warranty if the surge protector fails to protect your electrical stuff. The board only cost me NZ$39 and it has 8 power plug spaces.

The good news is that insurance will fix everything! It came out to a computer, 3 Tvs, two blu ray players, a ps3, my xbox one, my controller charger, and even the frigging brick that charges the phone!! (That one made me laugh though lol)

No ones kidding there. I read that it probably shot upwards of 60000 volts. It is a pain to go through tho. It's wild how this all happened. It also shot a couple of bricks 15 feet across our yard. We guess that's where it decided to exit the house. I'm
not sure if anyone else has had an Xbox One fried so where's my first place prize? Lol

Lightning just fried my Xbox One

My house got hit by lightning, killed my cordless phone, and fried the surge protector that I had my Samsung TV, DVR, and sound system plugged into. Black burn marks on the wall but didn't hurt anything else. Tripped several breakers but didn't hurt anything
else, had to buy a couple new surge protectors. I have my X1 plugged into a UPS, sure glad I did!

If the lightning entered the electrical in your house then it's highly likely it exited through the ground wiring. Don't know if you have already but you should have all the electrical in your house checked. Such a large voltage would probably overload all
    the wiring.
