    Licenses didn't transfer on to new HDD


    I upgraded to a new 500gb HDD a while back. I used the transfer cable to transfer all of my content from my old 250gb HDD on to the new one. Everything seemed to work just fine until recently when I tried to watch a movie that I bought a few years ago. It
    said that I don't have the license for it. Shouldn't that have transferred over with everything else? There are a few movies that this happened with. How do I go about getting the licenses transferred? I no longer have the old HDD so I sure hope I don't need
    it

    Taking xbox 360 slim 250GB hard drive and putting into the 4GB Xbox 360 slim

    Also if you want all users to be able to use your content on the Xbox you would need to perform a License Transfer

    You can do this by going to System > Account > License Transfer

    Do the license transfer on the new xbox after you put the hdd in

    License Tranfer

    You don't have to do a license transfer if the only thing you're upgrading is the HDD. The license transfer is for moving your game licenses between consoles. If you're still going to use the same console with a new hard drive, then no worries. The only
    thing you have left to do is put the content on your new HDD. Either use a Data Transfer cable to move it directly from one HDD to the other, or simply re-download the content.

    No licenses have to be redownlladed usong the original purchasing gamertag

    That includes games

    I have the same GT as always. So, all I have to do is delete them and download them again?

    If they're still in your download history you can try redownloading them. You may not have to delete them first though. License transfers are only needed if you switch consoles, so if you're still using the same console and GT then yeah, the movies should
    still be tied to your account. However, licenses for TV and movies are a little different from games. Licenses for the videos cannot be transferred. So if they were purchased on a different console, that may be why you no longer have the license.

    It's the same console and GT. I just upgraded my HDD from 250 to 500. So, since I still have the same console, I should still be able to obtain the licenses that I need to watch these videos, right?

    You should, but if the movies have been completely removed from the servers, it's possible you may no longer be able to get the licenses anymore.

    Shawshank Redemption, American Gangster, and Godfather 1&2 should still be there but when dealing with MS, nothing surprises me

    Unfortunately licenses are a lot more restricted when it comes to videos than games. It's more of an issue with film studios and publishers than with Microsoft. It's why I don't by movies digitally with any company.

    downloaded game from xbox live market wont launch

    When switching consoles you have to transfer license's to your new Xbox you can do that by going to settings then account and select license transfer. now if you transferred the game and all its data over it should work but if the game is not on your HDD
    then you will have to download it to your new HDD.

    360 Slim HDD question.

    Here's what I did. I took the new HDD and inserted it into my console. Downloaded my profile to the new HDD. It should prompt you to download your profile to the new HDD. If it doesn't, press the middle guide button, go to the HOME tab and there should be
    an option to download profile. Once your profile is on the new HDD, from the DASHBOARD home, scroll to the far right and choose SETTINGS. Go to ACCOUNT and choose LICENSE TRANSFER. After the licenses are transferred to the new HDD select DOWNLOAD HISTORY
    which is located right above where you chose LICENSE TRANSFER. Find Halo 3 or whatever you want on the new HDD and download it again. This process may take awile, depending on how much content you intend to re-download. Hope this helps.

    So you have 2 Slim 360s and you want to swap HDDs, that will work. But I don't know what everyone is talking about with the license transfers because it isn't needed, as the data and licenses are already on the hard drive, when I transfered the data from
    my old Elite to my Slim with the cable I didn't need to worry about any licenses and that was from HDD to HDD, this is just swapping HDDs so it's even simpler, pull it out and push it in and you're away.
