  1. License Transfer Question

So I recently bought a used (E) model Xbox 360 and a little after getting my account and what not added to it, I let my roommate do the same. He let me do a license transfer so that I could play a lot of the games he had as downloads. Anyway, I downloaded
them on the console and he plans to buy himself a 360 of his own soon. If I delete his account from my console will I still be able to play the games? If I can play the games without his account on the console, would that be in violation of the Terms of Use
    or Code of Conduct?

    :)

  3. license transfer question

I got my kids a 360 for their birthday. Over the years I've downloaded several games for them with my account. I hit license transfer and to put them on theirs not thinking it through. Will the others still be licensed to mineif I connect to live? When exactly does Xbox live change it when you select the transfer and the redownload just lets the 360 know, or does the redownload itself change it?

    License Transfer Question

If you are planning on sharing the console then it is fine. However, when he buys his own console he will do a license transfer back to that console which will no longer allow you access to those games.

If you did the license transfer simply to get the games and he will not be using the console then what has been done is considered Marketplace Theft and could result in the console and/or gamertags being banned.

He just did the license transfer so he won't be able to do it for 4 months right? Also, I'm confused by your first sentence. What do you mean when you say it's fine if I'm sharing the console?

If you both are sharing the console which would be presumed because you are room-mates then it will be fine as there is only one console. But if it's done strictly to share games back and forth (ie. he is playing on another console as well) it is not allowed.

  7. What if he has his account on both consoles? Would that be acceptable? I spent the past week downloading stuff and I really don't want to delete it all so if there's anyway to avoid that I'd like to know.

    License Transfer Question

License transfers are only meant to be used in the event that you have purchased a new console and you need to move your own licenses. It's not meant to be used to share games. So as onyx stated before, if the two of you are using separate consoles, it could
be considered marketplace theft and can put you both at risk for being banned.

  9. I didn't learn of the intended purpose until afterwards. I thought that as long as the purchasing account was present, it was acceptable. The licenses are on my console as well as my roommate's account. All I'm asking is, if I have his account on my console
even if he gets his own, would that be acceptable. I'm not looking to learn about Microsoft's intentions in designing the License Transfer feature. I only want to know if it would be acceptable to use the content so long as I have the licenses and the purchasing
account is present on my console. I mean, even if he plays on another console he already did the license transfer and his account is present on my console so would my console not be considered the home console? And, for the time being, he still plays on it.

If he's using the console, then it's fine. If he's using another console, it can still be considered marketplace theft even if his account is on your console. Also, if he needs to play his games offline on a new console, he would need to have his licenses
on his console, so you would lose access to the games on your console.

    License Transfer Question

It sounds as though you're trying to justify what has been done here. The length of time between transfers has nothing to do with Marketplace Theft. If he gets a new console tomorrow he can still contact phone support and they can do a manual transfer
    for him.

  14. And you're getting off-topic. Let me be blunt because this is taking way too long. I (along with millions of others) could not care less about Microsoft's intentions in making the License Transfer tool. Know why I didn't know it was meant solely for recovery?
You are the only people to ever suggest to me that that is what it's there for. Litterally everyone who has ever mentioned it to me was refferring to using it to share content. Why? Because many believe Microsoft to be a greedy corporation profiting on ripping
off and disappointing it's customers and many of us do not respect them or their ridiculous rules. We reluctantly abide by them so that we may enjoy the consoles, games, accessories and services we have jumped through hoops and paid small fortunes to enjoy.
And the only thing that keeps us from turning our consoles in to GameStop for far less than what we got them for and going over to Sony instead is that Microsoft is what we're used to and, in addition to convenience, have exclusives we like. In conclusion,
countless people are very much content remaining loyal customers and bending and breaking rules wherever they can and anyone who's been on LIVE long enough will have noticed this. Mods, harassment, hacking threats...daily occurences so common its redundant
to list them. So long as they can fly under the radar, nobody cares about greedy, buzzkill Microsoft trying to parent them over the internet. I didn't come here for a lesson in ethics or Microsoft's rules. I just came for facts. Roomate did a license transfer
with me. Licenses and his account, the one used to purchase the content, are present on my console which he currently still uses. If he were to buy his own console but kept his account on my console as well, would I be legally able to use the content? I, of
course, have his permission. That's what I want to know. I don't care whether you think it's right or wrong. I don't care if that's not the intended purpose of the feature. I want a a simple ''Yes, you can'' or ''No, you can't'' all opinions aside. If you
cannot give me an honest, blunt, entirely fact-based answer I will ask someone who will.

    License Transfer question

In order for everybody on the new console to have access to games purchased by the other profiles on it (like with the old one), each profile will need to do a License Transfer. This is because when you purchase a game/app/dlc, etc., you get two types of
licenses. One is for the profile that purchased it, and allows that profile access to the content on any console. The other is for the console that the item was purchased on, which allows the entire family share content that one person has purchased. This
is the license that transfers to the new console when you perform a license transfer.

Everything you need to know to do this can be found here:
