License Transfer Problems.

Hey my Xbox 360 broke, so I downloaded my profile onto my brothers Xbox 360 and downloaded my games to it also, and changed the licences over to it.

But since then I can only play games if I'm connected to live, and none of them work whilst offline on my profile or any of the others, I've tried doing the license transfer again but it wont let me do it for another 4 months and not sure what else I can
do as I wont be able to get online all the time and wont be able to play my games.

License Transfer Problems

Have you had the console repaired at any time? When you go to the DRM page, does the current console ID listed there match the ID of your console? You can check under System Settings > Console Settings > Console Info

License Transfer Problems

I apologize if this is buried earlier on. I went back 4 pages...

I bought the Halo 4 Special Edition console on launch day 11/6/2012, to upgrade my ailing old console. I have years of DLC, including games, RB songs, add ons, etc.

I also bought an HDD transfer cable, and used that to transfer my games and content. Upon completing this all looked good for my profile. However, all of the XBLA games read as demos on my kids profiles, which also transferred from the HDD transfer utility.
I then tried to perform the License Transfer and I was treated with a message indicating that I had transferred my licenses within 4 months, and had to wait to do so again. I am really unsure why this happened, as I had not transferred licenses since the purchase
of my previous xbox over 2 years back. I assumed it had something to do with using the transfer cable, so I hit the online forums.

The two prevalent suggestions were to wait 4 months or delete and re-download everything. Deleting and redownloading everything was out of the question in the middle of a busy holiday season, so, to my kid's chagrin I decided to wait it out.

Today, easily 4 months beyond the cable transfer incident, I decided to give it another shot (the boys are jonesing hardcore for some Xbox Minecraft, you see, so it was about time). When I went to License Transfer I got this message:

"There was a problem communicating with Xbox LIVE. Please try again later.

For more info, visit www.xbox.com/support/licensemigration/."

I visited the website, and nothing there helps with this particular issue. Is this really a com issue? Doubtful, but thanks to the generic unhelpful error, who knows? Does my account still have a lock on transferring licenses? Again, who knows? Cant get
that info either.

I decided to try deleting and redownloanling just a sliver of content; Minecraft. It still doesnt work on my son's account.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The financial investment I have put into this console and service for my family's enjoyment numbers easily in the thousands. I just purchased a $100 family pack under a week ago. I am now feeling a bit stung, not having
the content I spent so much money on available to my family.

Did you redownload the games after you performed the license transfer?

Yeah, should of clarified I did the licence transfer first and then downloaded all my games, but didn't realise they weren't working till my brother tried playing one on his profile, and then checked my profile offline and same with that.

Did you do a license transfer when you got the console? It sounds like the problem is a licensing issue and a transfer should fix it.

An Xbox Hard drive Transfer Cable, does not transfer any licenses.

Just to be sure, did you execute the transfer of licenses on the new console? Since you will need to do it on the new console, doing it on the old console doesn't do the thing you want.

How do I obtain licenses for content?

Licenses are automatically acquired when you download content. If a license is missing or has become corrupted, you can access the download history on your Xbox 360 console and redownload that content to reacquire a license. This process refreshes existing
licenses and does not transfer licenses to a new console, unless the license transfer tool was used first.

You can transfer content licenses from one console to another once every four months.

If your console was recently repaired, or if you’ve purchased a new console, use the license transfer option on your console to transfer content licenses. Here’s how:

On your console, sign in to Xbox LIVE using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.
Go to the Settings, and then select Account.
Go to Your Billing Options, and then select License Transfer.
Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the content licenses.

After the licenses are transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licenses. This way the content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you’re not connected to Xbox LIVE.

Well, I took your advice and called the support line to see if this problem could be fixed. After about 3 hours of verifying my accoun and various other runarounds. I clearly explained my problem multiple times, mind you. I find out that i still have to
wait the full 4 months to do another license transfer. You would think there would be some kind of exception in this instance but once again Microsoft you have failed me. Thanks for the last 7-8 years of red ringed consoles , disc drive failures, and hard
drive crashes. It was fun while it lasted but I'll probably never purchase another one of your consoles again. Maybe you guys at the top need to focus a little more on making a quality product instea of making as much money of s cheaply manufactured product.
