    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

After spending hours trawling the Internet I have now come unstuck.

I am looking to open up a games lounge, sort of like an Internet cafe except with a whole load of xboxs.

Whilst trying to find out what kind licence I would need to "use a game for commercial purposes" as per the EULA, all I keep being told is that I would have to contact publishers directly for their express written consent. I'm sure there must be some sort
of licence that I can get, possibly from the local council, like the playing of music one.

Or would I have to purchase rental copies of games even though I wouldn't actually be renting them?

I've tried getting in contact with other establishments around the country try but they're not very forthcoming with their advice!

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

    Transfer data question.

Hi, to transfer content licences associated with your console you must sign in to the console with the profile used to purchase the content. Once signed in go to Settings > account > billing options and select licence transfer following the on screen instructions to transfer the licences to the new console so other profiles can use the content. Content can not be transfered across profiles only across consoles - hope this helps

The "using a game for commercial purposes" is normally referring to open source games where you are taking a free source code and developing a commercial game.

In your case it really doesn't apply especially with a One. You'll need a disc for each console or a digital version but the digital route could put you in a gray area depending on how you handled the "home console" options.

Software companies do sell multiple licenses but that's normally for non-gaming software. Easiest route for you would be going the disc route which would prevent anyone from coming after you for not having a license for each copy of the game.

First of all thanks for your reply.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, however, what do you mean by home console?

I think the way we are going to work it is that we will have a separate live account for each console, im pretty sure that digital copies won't work on another account other than the one that purchased it, am I right?

The Home Console feature allows a single game to be played on two different consoles at the same time with a single purchase. "Game tag A" makes "Console 1" their home console and any game purchased by that gamer tag can be played on that console by anyone.
"Gamer tag A" can then log into another console and have access to the same games.

Basically two licenses for the price of one which is technically against the EULA but currently not being enforced. You do it in a business atmosphere x10 or more then you're probably going to have some issues.

Can I ask if you have done the maths? forgetting the licenses, your rent, rates, insurance, utilities etc etc, let alone getting fast reliable internet, I can't see how you would make it work as a business (assuming it is a business)

But how much are you going to be charging?

    @Enen

That was my first thought too, I live in the US and internet cafe's lasted about 6-12 months when they opened up in my neck of the woods. Leases were to high, everyone has internet so they just never worked.

But if you were to start a One café in a college town with a focus on PvP games and hosted team events or tournaments I could see it working. It would just have to be more than simply renting a One to play games on.

I live in the uk! The focus will be on regular cash tournaments, parties etc the more social side of it that you can't really get playing at home and/or online,, there is a high volume of schools and a large college nearby! And absolutely nothing to do in
    the evenings or weekends nearby.

I am also in the UK, and if your in a high population area like london you might have a chance, but then if you are the rents are going to be higher.

So how many hours have you spent on the street asking people if they are interested? The population of gamers is infact very small compare to other things like football, and even smaller when it comes to high level cash games.

There are already regular lan events events which work, but they don't have the same overheads a fix location does, I mean signing a 5 year lease on a £20k+ a year property when its only going to used infrequently is worrying.

There are companies that will rent you all the equipment and games, plus maintain it, but its not cheap.

Doing event nights will allow you to test the market, before committing to a lease.

Again I wish you luck, and let us know how it gets on.

Sounds like a great idea, but one i'm not sure would work as a business - Where are you planning to have it running in the UK out of interest?

There was a few of these places popping up in neighboring communities. They had games consoles, P.C.s, snack bar, etc.. One shut down because the place was overrun by teens with no money; when you have 25 people in your place and only three are paying for
playtime and snacks, you ain't going to last long. Another shut down because the rent increase was too high. Another is still in business, but for how much longer...

I like the concept of the idea; a modern arcade to socialize. Rent, maintenance, and clientele, with what type of clientele you attract being the make or break of your endeavor...I would take EnenDaveyBoy s advice on event nights before commitment.

    Best of luck to you!

    Peace, J.R.

    Hi,

There's little chance of Fifa Street. Why would that be I hear you ask? LICENCES. Sports games have licences, team licences, player licences, music licences and many other licences.

The problem is these licences expire. Notice that there is very little in the way of sports titles in BC? Well that's due to licences. It also explains why you can't buy the digital versions of these games on a 360.

Transferring a game i just bought from one account to another.

When you purchase content, you receive a licence to use that content. The licence has two parts: the system licence and the local licence. The system licence applies to the gamertag that purchases the content, and the local licence applies to the console
where you first downloaded the content.

    Transfer content licences

You can transfer content licences from one console to another once every four months.

If your console was recently repaired, or if you’ve purchased a new console, use the licence transfer option on your console to transfer content licences. Here’s how:

    1. On your console, sign in to Xbox Live using the gamertag that you used to purchase the content.
    2. Go to the Settings and then select Account.
    3. Go to Your Billing Options, and then select Licence Transfer.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the content licences.
After the licences have been transferred, you need to download the content again to update the local licences. This way the content can be used by other profiles on your console and when you’re not connected to Xbox Live.
