I have play my console with a 720P Plasma Panasonic TV, the color where much brighter and spectacular, the sound was ok.

nom i have a LED TV (Sanyo)

The quality with my 1080p, the color is good and nice (lest better that plasma) but the refresh image, and the sound was much better.

    Thinking of getting a Plasma

Only downside is that plasma TV's are energy guzzlers. I'm waiting for LG's OLED to come down in price.

    LG 42PG20D: Plasma or OLED

Panasonic was the king of Plasma TVs, but even they no longer build them. If your Plasma suits your needs, I would stay with it for the short term.

OLED TVs are, in my opinion, better than LED backlit, but one more generation will likely get them to a more affordable price. If 4K is the only reason you are looking to change, then I would wait and see what gets announced at CES in January.

Here are a few interesting articles comparing the features:

  5. I used to game primarily on a Samsung plasma. Still have the tv and love it but it’s relegated to older systems now. Once I bought a One X I wanted to upgrade. Not for the 4k necessarily but for the HDR. I got an LG C7 and it has blown me away. You can
activate game mode on this panel and still have a ton of video options to tweak.

  6. Cost for me isn't an issue, I just want the bests possible image that I can get. Also I have an opportunity to sell the plasma so if I'm going to make the leap it may as well be now. Thanks very much for posting the articles, they were very helpful.
From what I can see, on an OLED, input lag isn't a hinderance and I suppose HDR will be a big plus.

  7. Has HDR been that big of a deal? I haven't tried it for gaming. Saw it on a large projection screen and it was very impressive. Is it the same improvement for games?

An Xbox One X with an OLED 4K TV that correctly supports HDR is unbelievable to watch. You should notice a fairly significant difference in how it looks, a small difference in the cost to run the TV, and it will probably weigh 1/3 of the weight.

  9. Depends on the game. Some games implement it rather well while some do not, especially if it was added on. Forza 7, Gears 4 and the Master Chief Collection look amazing. Can’t wait for the new Tomb Raider as the developers have said HDR was a priority
    from the start.
