Heya my fellow Xbox One owners. As you may know these game sizes are getting huge, and only getting bigger (Halo MCC). Myself and many others im sure are either shopping for externals or will soon be looking for one. I thought it would be nice if people
that have bought externals for the Xbox One can maybe post what you bought, size, price, and how its been working for you. I personally am planning on buying one very soon since i already had to delete a couple games to make room for November, i could definitely
use some help from you all!

External Hard Drives

Planning for the future what do I need to be looking for when shopping for a solid external hard drive?

the economy didnt help any either. where they had teams of people bigcompanies may have come in and bought up the shop..

 

Was going to get one until i heard its lifespan is likely less than a year which makes it not worth it in my opinion

I picked up this drive when it was on sale for 69$ It also came with a free 32GB thumb drive at the time. So far it
has been great. Wright speed for downloading games takes a little bit longer than the internal drive but not so much that I have a complaint. Read speeds are just as fast as the internal drive. It's small too, I was thinking it would be close to the size of
a VHS tape, but it's more like the size of a smart phone with the thick protective case on it. The only CON I have for this drive is the USB cable that came with it, as it's only around 16 inches. But it doesn't bother me much because I had a spot ready for
it next to my X1 anyway.

I'd give it a 10/10 so far. Works perfectly and it's very easy to transfer saves both to and from the XBox Internal HD to the External one.

 

Thanks for the posts so far guys! Hey Azrael for that one that you linked its just a plug in and reformat then just move all my game files to it? Also im assuming due to its size its one that requires a outlet for power correct?

 

I picked up a 1TB Western Digital MyPassport Ultra. I got it because it doesn't need it's own standalone power supply, and 1TB is plenty big for the time being. I love the drive because it's quiet and loads games and content faster than the internal drive.

I just finish games then delete them. A practice I was never used too but am finding much cheaper than 150$ investment.

Plus with my luck it would die like everything else

 

I picked up this one for 89.99 after reading about a ton of externals. It comes with a 3 year warranty and it has a 7200RPM drive inside.

So far it is working great, and it feels like games load faster from it then the internal drive.

I too am hesitant about the lifespan of external HDDs as I've never owned one; hopefully when I do purchase an external HDD it doesn't end up dying out on me LOL

MS needs to allow us to install games to Networked devices. I have 2 Synology NAS's in my house total storage on both is around 18Tb. And everything is wired up gigabit with one NAS having 2 bonded NIC cards. Speed shouldn't be an issue. But I bet pirating
would be a concern for MS.

I got this one. Works like a charm. There is no difference between when I load a game up from the internal or external so I moved them all over to external.
