I am still having problems connecting to XBox Live this morning. I've tried with both consoles, and nothing works. Reset my router, turned the consoles off and back on again and everything. I know there's no good solution, so I'll just take this opportunity
to put out there that if you have an always online console, you better have either a rocksolid defense against DDoS attacks, or just do the thing normal human beings would do and let people play single player games offline. This is moderated, right? I want
your supervisor to inform his supervisor and so on and so forth that I have been a loyal customer for five years, and I'm not happy I can't play the games I paid for on the service I pay for. If this happens again before my subscription is up, you've lost
a customer. And I pay with yearly subscription codes, so there'll be none of the infamous Micro$oft charging for something that should have been cancelled. And I have to trust this'll be seen by any employee because the support section doesn't have an email
address or phone number. Why do I even pay for this stuff if I'm just *** over and ignored at every possible opportunity?

    :)

Battlefield3, Should you install the texture pack?

I know lots of people who play games for the single player campaign and offline co-op modes <gasp> Shocking, I know.

    Single-player has never meant that you play offline, which appears to be the mistake many people make. Single-player simply means what it implies - that you play by yourself. It has nothing to do with whether you're online or offline. Same goes with multiplayer;
just because you're playing with multiple people doesn't necessarily mean you're playing online. Split-screen is a good example of offline multiplayer in this case. Many people complain about how single-player games should not be online. To them, I ask why
    not?

The Xbox One is going to revolutionize single-player by breaking the old beliefs of many by having online single-player games that will help enhance the experience in many ways. Although the cloud may or may not live up the hype, the potential of having an
online component that changes the single-player experience for the better is certainly there.

Try This on the Xbox One:

Settings / Network Settings / Go Offline

  5. As far as I know this only works for games that don't require a Xbox Live verification. For example you can set your Xbox system to offline but when you try to play a games (e.g. Halo), it still asks for a sign-in before launching, which needs the internet
    connection.

If I'm wrong, happy to be corrected.

No you are right. I have 5 games and even in offline mode they ask to sign in.

I just finished packing up my Xbox One. Because of this issue I'm returning the unit in exchange for a PS4. I was a die hard Playstation fan until a friend showed me some 360 games and I went out the same day and bought one. I thought I'd never go back
to Playstation. Guess what, now I'm for sure never going back to any console made by Microsoft. You lost a customer for life.

Good luck. The PS4 has the same problem, but worse. It was in the news yesterday that hackers have interrupted service on the Playstation Network (PSN) as well. Their PSN service was down for a couple of days already and *remains* "Offline" until further
    notice as of 12/26/14.

Microsoft's Xbox division has done a magnificent job and has brought the network back up, even during a holiday, and Xbox Live is running smoothly, for the most part.

Lol PSN has exactly the same problems - in fact they are probably worse.

Don't blame MS for game that require you to sign in blame the game developers they have designed it that way.

  10. Not so sure about that Neco. Microsoft controls the DRM. There should be a DRM cache that times out. i.e. every time I log in online it refreshes it and if I don't have internet I can still play for 2 or 3 days, or even a week, before it forces a check
again... Considering the tech in this box, that shouldn't be too hard...

  11. After you go into offline mode, sign in like you usually do at the top left of the screen. So long as you've signed in recently it should be able to sign in using cached credentials.

  12. This is not working for me. "Check your connection. To start FarCry 4 We need to connect to Xbox Live. Make sure your Xbox is online, then sign in and try again...

I'm already signed in when it says this, but went ahead and selected 'offline' mode and it's the same error...

I am pretty upset myself I have had every Xbox since the first one. Now finally my kid is old enough to play with me so we get him a Xbox one and there has been nothing but trouble. I have been around awhile but the timing really sucks haven't been able
to get som solid playing time with my son for two days now. It is very upsetting. I agree there should at least be the ability to play completly offline no requirements for Internet. I surprises me how much don't work without it. I thought the rolled back
the Internet requirement to play games it seems they may have stretched the truth there. I am a network engineer and so I know better relying on the Internet for anything solid is foolish. Especially when DDoS is so easy and your product relies on it so much.
I would say MS may be doing better then PS but both are lack luster. I just want the professionals to know at MS that coming from a professional you guys are really doing a bad job. I am 1 of 4 guys that manage the 5th largest city in the US network. We get
hit all the time with hackers and DDoS these are all easy fixes. I mean it just takes good planning, doing things right, checking and double checking, and not being lazy. K.I.S.S helps a lot too. I mean if our network was operating like your stuff is now someone
would be out of a job for sure. Because that would mean someone missed something and it has effected. This would be a major incident every team would be notified there would be status emails and conference calls every hour for the duration. And after it was
resolved this would be brought up in problem management and it would never happen again. I mean there are ways to deal with this stuff. There are quick reaction steps that can take place when this happens. It just seems like you guys are winging it. I mean
when dealing with our customers we keep a line of communication open. They are on the same updates as all the teams and only thing they are kept out of are technical stuff. Every other status update internally is shared so they are brought with us along the
way. You guys are saying your going to update in a half hour and when I checked it was a hour old. There should be a guy who's job that is his second hat. He's in on it but he also has to update the customers. When he's updated as apart of the team he relays
it. I mean I feel like there is room for potential but right now it seems you guys are in a very novice stage of managing a major incident. At the very least the easiest thing to at least make it seem to the customer you guys are doing something you should
start with keeping your updates on time or removing the time in which another update will be provided. And keep them regular with semi technical stuff so it don't seem like it's automated. Example restarting servers on the east coast now central is next. Or
having an issue with come credentials in the Huston area. A little more detail maybe. Kids now a days know a little more then your giving them credit for. And if they don't know what a server is or credentials then they may look it up because it pertains to
their beloved games system and it may spark their interest in learning more about that.

Kudos to you Big Jeff V. I completely agree with you, at least about the being kept in the loop part, I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on how they are running there networks and systems but I would at least like to see constant updates rolling out
every thirty minutes like they advertise. It kills me to just wait hour after hour hoping that maybe in the next ten minutes xbox will miraculously be working when in reality it could be 10 hours from now. I mean is it to much trouble to just to post ANYTHING,
its been hours since the original service alert and still no updates.
