Lemme get your opinion on something guys...

Do I

a. Download games

or

b. Purchase Physical CD's?

I'm not sure which one to do. Here's why:

I think of the advantages of downloading a game. It is fast, I can do it from home, I never have to worry about losing, breaking or scratching the game.

Then I think of a few disadvantages. For example, downloading a game uses up my Xbox's memory right? Also, what will happen if the hard drive crashes? (Like my 360 did) I'll lose all of my information.

Thoughts?

I love giving my opinion lol seriously though i'm a disk guy i like having the physical little guy in my hand(don't lose focus Alpha were still talking about disk here)and if i have to uninstall a game for another one and want to put that one back on it
seems to install quicker from the disk but you are correct as over time regardless of how careful you are scratches will happen.

I believe going all digital would def fill up the drive a lot faster and it really doesn't need the help right now on a 500gb hard drive...i think the best solution to all this whether you want to go digital and/or disk is the USB stick with some insane
memory preferably the 3TB USB i have seen posters mention around here.

 

Download and backup to a large external. Discs take up the same amount of your X1 HDD storage.

Disc you can trade in and get back a few bucks...digital is yours forever... You can home console share digital, disc you cannot, you can fast switch without changing disc with digital... disc you need to get up and switch the disc..disc takes up space on
your shelf.. digital does not...

all comes down to 2 things... I want to be able to trade in a $60 game for $15 bucks or lend it to my friend and hope I see it again and it looks really good with all that green binders on my shelf...

or just face the facts and realize discs are soon to be forgotten and get with digital...

 

Got fast internet with no data caps? Like switching between games without getting up? Don't like having any resell value on games?

Is your internet slow or capped? Like reselling/trading your games?

These are the questions you need to ask yourself.

I have a mix, with digital outnumbering my physical. Games I want to "own" I buy on disc.

I have both. My digital games I have are either impulse bought or games that have been in a sale on the store.

 

I'm personally more of a disk person. Since I got the Xbox one however, I'v been downloading most of the games I get since you need to sit through an install with a disk anyways. So I suppose it depends on what you're using. Xbox One I'd stick with downloads,
some games save to the cloud so it won't make a difference and if your hard drive does die, which shouldn't happen for a while, you can re download the games to a personal external drive and keep going where you left off. If it's the 360 however, I would stick
with discs. There is no install wait if you have the disc plus you can sell the game when you're done with it. PC, always download.

 

I'm 50/50 at this point, my mindset is that I buy digital if the game has replay value, if I know I'm only going to play through the game once and doesn't have a good multiplayer, then I buy disc.

 

Umm. You do have to worry about "losing" your game IF you go digital.

Back during my Halo 4 days. We who played Halo 4 got invited to play Forge. Hog racing etc. Thing is if you got invited to play in a match where people were "cheating" - whether you knew it or not. You got banned. Now, thinking rationally - It's bad enough
to have your console banned, but those Digital games. You lose 'em. - and as everyone knows - You can't get them back.

Thus it's better to own physical copies of games - as possession is 9/10ths of the Law. And it's extremely hard for anyone, including M to take your PHYSICAL possessions away from you.

 

Digital has benefits like not having to insert any disc into your console, especially if you don't want to be getting up to change discs. Downsides to Digital is in certain countries the disc version is cheaper. Xbox 1 games sizes can be over quadruple the
size of Xbox 360 games. Forza is over 30GB big, COD Ghosts is around 40GB. Many households only have ADSL Broadband or even monthly data caps. Downloading Forza or COD Ghosts/AW at ADSL Broadband speeds could take several hours. Also parents and households
may have data caps as well. Then again, some digital games are not available at locale retail stores and they're only open like 9-5 or depending on the store so that's a good thing about Digital you can shop 24/7 unless there's an XBL Service Alert which effects
purchasing stuff through XBL. And, Digital version games are subject to user restrictions too, especially on Xbox 360. One profile can download and play it on one console and other profiles can play it on that console. If you log onto another Xbox 360 console
say a friends they don't have it, you can download and play it on their console, but they.... won't be able to play it unless they buy it. And you can't trade digital games. And you don't get refunds on them either.

Pro's with disc versions is they can be cheaper, no worrying about downloading a massive file off XBL, not subject to strict user restrictions as Digital, and can trade them. Primary con is it has to be in and readable by the console's disc drive, in order
to play. As for downloading, it shouldn't affect Xbox 1's memory because it has 8GB DDR3 memory unlike 512MB GDDR3 (GDDR3 is slower than DDR3 "It has much the same technological base as DDR2" Wikipedia, search: GDRR3) RAM on Xbox 360. Digital downloads will
affect your ISP and networking since you'll have to download a file which lets face it for Xbox 1, can be many GB's big.

 

I download all of my games now.

Even with a 500gb HDD I never have to worry about space, I'm lucky that have I fast broadband so if I ever run a little low on space I just delete and re-download again if I go back to a game in the future.

Sure I lose the ability to trade games back in and get a few £$£$£ back but to be honest downloading games will probably actually save me money in the long run because the amount of times in the past I've traded a game in, only to want to play it again and
pay for it all over so at least with digital I know I've always got it to go.

Plus I like the thought ( probably me being a bit lazy lol ) that I never have to worry about getting out to the shop to get it, wait on the postman for a game delivery, in most cases I can pre-download the games ( got Resident Evil and Dying Light ready
to go ) so I'm ready to go on release.

 

I don't mind personally. I just buy which other is the cheapest, I've got some good deals on digital games.

 

Here in the UK if you use online stores like simplygames you will mostly find them cheaper than downloads.

Mind you, if you shop in-store at GAME, well their prices are just crazy most of the time and I find downloading is cheaper than buying in-store lol

Obviously if your broadband isn't the quickest then your probably better off going with disk, even with disk you still have some pretty big updates but not so bad as downloading the full game.
