If my thumbsticks on my 360 pad started sticking , I used to give it a squirt of penatrating oil like ...Wd40.

Waggle the stick a bit in all directions , wipe off the excess with tissue .

The left bumper stopped working properly in one controller and the sticks in my other one felt loose and had a wobble to them so I opened both up and swapped the thumbsticks out of the broken left bumper controller. So far so good. I refuse to send stuff
into Microsoft after all the bad experience people have had with them.

  3. I got this problem on my controller after about 8 months. You need to send it back to Microsoft and they will send a replacement. Have done it over live chat with x-box team.

I've had the X1 over a year and have not had a problem with the controller, though all my 360 controllers would drift after about 6 months.

    Peace, J.R.

6 months in and my left stick broke recently took it back as luckily its still in warranty.

I only had one 360 controller break on me in the 6 years i had the console so im hoping for a similar failure rate this time also.

  7. If you want your controllers to last, then practice some good house keeping and DO NOT eat and use the controllers at the same time.

What happens is food particles, dust, and oil from your skin falls down past opening around the thumbsticks (TS) and onto the boards, which then can fall and build up under the (TS) assembly and when it does. That little piece of metal used as a spring can
    get bent.

So lets say you are playing COD and with the TS pressed forward and clicked. What happens is that buildup acts like a STOP and yet you have to press forward, so the spring plate then becomes bent. So the next time you have to press harder in order to acheive
the same results, and in so doing bend the plate spring INSIDE the assembly even further until.... Drift and ultimately... No control at all.

So keep em clean. Even moreso with X1 controllers.

You can clean and retweek the TS spring plate. But patience in spades is required in order to adjest it properly. So its best just to practise good housekeeping from the start.

I'm surprised by the durability of the X1 controller compared to the 360 controller. My X1 controller has lasted twice as long as a 360 controller lasted me..... Very impressed.

Its been reported that the April update has caused some controllers to malfunction.

Reports of drifting, lagging by moving in certain directions and pressing of buttons are among the issues. Newer controllers have been working fine and then essentially bricked by the update.

Support recommends doing a power cycle and then unplugging the Xbox One from the power for 5 minutes. Afterward powering on the console via the controller.

My 360 controllers did this a bunch. Mostly from COD games I played a ton of. The Xbox One controller I have has done pretty well. I get a little drift once and a while for the same reason I think. Only way I could ever fix it for a while was to rubber band
the left stick down for a night or two. Not sure it really helped much but seemed to in my mind anyway.

My One controller was semi-broken out of the box. I just CBAd to get it changed. The RB is weird; loose, kinda like just hanging there. It seems to work, tho. Not sure if I played a game like DaS2 if it'd actually work all that well since I now just use
it for like grandes or something.

Both my controllers now drift up. It is not a software issue. It is a hardware issue . It is because they bought cheap components from China. There is a YouTube video in the post below showing how to take a XBox One controller apart and the piece that
is always breaking. The second link is how to fix your controller step by step.

See this link for a guide to fix the issue

My stick is having the same issue. It's annoying that Microsoft is forcing the customer to pay for their known issue from using poor components.

There will be plenty of people having such an issue and 9 times out of 10 it's usually fixable with a bit of careful playing with it, because sometimes the sticks are a bit stiff or stuck a certain way. I had this issue with the controller that came with
my 360 when I bought it, but a bit of fussing with it fixed the drifting and other issues related to the left analog stick malfunctioning. What won't be fixed by playing around a bit with it are the ones that are stuck that way and loose from heavy use/mistreatment.
You have to be really careful with stuff like game controllers these days. They definitely aren't abuse proof like they used to be designed for.

just bought a replacement controller for my Day One controller and the build quality of the new one is much higher. It feels way more solid.
