Leaderboard tampering

0ver the last 15 years of playing games on Xbox live I have noticed some gamers are able to manipulate leaderboard scores that are impossible to obtain legitimately, giving them the number position. I have known some gamers who have through no fault of their own accidentally triggered a games leaderboard score to explode to the point that no one could surpass it without coming across the same glitch. Those I have known that have encountered exploits that give a misleading representation of their correct score unintentionally, have been honest enough to report this to Xbox live. The four people I have known to report their number one world ranking was due to a bug and not their awesome gaming ability were surprised when a few months had gone by and the leaderboard had not been given back to the rightful owner. I am unaware of any other reported instances where Xbox live took action to correct a leaderboard fault. I am not saying they haven't , I just don't know of any. Why this fault was not being corrected is unclear, Xbox live never provided an explanation why or if they were even doing anything. Contacting the game company directly also seemed to fall on deaf ears. After exhausting all known avenues it looked like they were stuck with having a world number one record, oh well how bad could it be having your gamertag immortalized as being the best in the world. There was a reason why these gamers reported their undeserved right to be called number one and wanted their gamertag removed from the leaderboard. While Xbox live and the game companies did not care what had happened, there were those who did, other gamers. The ones who had fought to claim that title and made friendships along the way while still having a healthy rivalry with each other. Out of the four who did the right thing and reported their false leaderboard scores only one still plays. On the other hand those who deliberately manipulate leaderboard scores amass large followings and some actually generate an income from stealing the number one spot then selling it to the highest bidder. This is what I was told by someone who does this for a living, I do not know if this is true or not and I do not believe everything people say. However I do believe what those 4 people experienced could have been avoided if someone cared enough. I know first hand what they went through because the one that still plays is me the other 3 are my kids
