Latest Xbox One S still suffers from weak audio output (still) .

Picked up an S on Thanksgiving weekend (bday present for myself) to replace my when-it-wants to play Samsung Blu-ray player & streamer . Sadly , I found that the audio output on it is as weak as my Xbox 360Slim was when hooked up to my Vizio 5.1 wireless
audio system . Now playing back DD & DTS whether it be on disc or streaming is just fine . It's when the audio isn't either it when it suffers . Almost a complete lack of background music & bass ruins the viewing experience for me . Netflix & HBO Go is just
fine , but any other apps suffer big-time . I stream a lot from Crunchyroll & Funimation and about all you hear is the voices , barely any music . My pc that's hooked up to same Vizio blows the Xbox out of the water on the audio , while using the onboard
motherboard audio . Yes , I bought it for A/V usage (as advertised) but it still just isn't there yet . I'm also using the optical out & everything is set up properly . I already checked with Crunchyroll and it's not on their end .

S/Pdif to RCA Audio Adapter for Xbox One

Xbox One has 2 outputs - one HDMI and one Optical Audio (s/pdif). HDMI carries both audio and video. But if you want to send your audio to a receiver that does not have HDMI inputs, then you can use the optical output from Xbox One. PS4 is exactly the
same.

And William is right - if you try converting HDMI to DVI, you will lose the audio on both Xbox and PS4 (unless you are using the separate optical output for audio).

Nov 2012 update causing issues with my 360

The Nov 27 update seems to have killed digital audio output from my 360.

The boot sound effect when the xbox logo comes up still works in full surround, but all sounds after that no longer work through the fiber optic digital audio output.

That's intentional, because the console shouldn't have two video outputs connected at the same time. You're supposed to buy the audio-only adapter, which provides an optical digital output and RCA analog outputs. Folks have said that some non-Microsoft
adapters have the wrong jumpers set and still look video-capable to the console, so a Microsoft-branded one is the best bet if they're still available. (The 360S console revision added optical audio output to the console itself.)

I agree completely with these thoughts.

In addition they could have added a second HDMI output for Audio only so that those with Non 4K AV receivers can still use the latest HD Audio formats such as Dolby Digital HD.

Would have thought this would have been easy for them to implement into the top-end Xbox.
