Latest update messed up black levels for UHD playback

I've tried a few 4K Blurays now and something seems to have happened with the black levels since the latest update. The black doesn't get quite as black as before and I noticed that the "Cinema Black" feature on my Samsung JS9000 TV no longer kicks in for
UHD content (still works for standard Blurays).

Has anyone else noticed the black levels getting worse for 4K HDR content since the latest update?

    :)

Blu Ray Player out of sinc after latest console update!!!!

Not sure about the sync issue, but the Blu-ray app on my XB1 S keeps wanting to update every time I go to the update section in "my games & apps". And also 4k playback isn't working.

It seems the latest console update messed up the Blu-ray/video playback in many areas.

  3. UHD Bluray playback - HDR not output correctly

There is a problem with UHD Bluray playback on the latest firmware. Yesterday I hooked up my brand new XBOX One X and everything was great. Games looked amazing. Forza 7 in HDR is fantastic with deep blacks, bright higlighst and vibrant colors. Just as HDR
    should be.

The I tried playing back a few regular bluray discs and they looked as they should (SDR). Lastly I tried some UHD Bluray discs (Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy 2) which looked amazing on my old One S that I sold a little over a month ago to make room
    for the One X.

But as soon as the UHD movies started playing something was off. My LG OLED C6 switched correctly into HDR mode (as it does on games with HDR like Forza or the Insects demo) but all the blacks were pale grey and all the colors were
washed out. I checked the TV input information and it was receiving a 4K HDR bt rec.2020 signal but it looked nothing like it used to.

Something must be wrong with the fall update and UHD Bluray playback because before the fall update everything was fine one my old One S and games still render perfectly in HDR. Only UHD movies are affected.

    Please Microsoft, fix this issue

  4. Latest update messed up black levels for UHD playback

I've gotten it on my pass-thru on my isp tv . Watching Gotham had all the black weird splotches . I had to change my setting from vivid to cinema to get rid of it . I have a new 4K Hienese television . Also , the audio on pass thru is delayed now with no
way to change the sync thru the Xbox . The update before screwed up my Xbox Media Remote ...

  5. I have the exact same issue on my One X. Tried the Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Both UHD discs with HDR). Games in HDR (Forza 7) look amazing but UHD movies look awful now.

Regular blurays look fine. My LG OLED C6 switches to HDR mode and displays info saying that it is receiving a 4K signal with HDR and BT rec.2020 so the signal is correct for HDR, but it seems that the Bluray software in the latest update has been messed
up so that it doesn't decode or send HDR image data correctly to the TV as it did before.

  6. Have the same here... Really annoying. Have a LG 65E6V and if you switch to HDR Game mode it will work as normal again, but of course with wrong colors

  7. I have the same issue, but just with video. Games look great with HDR enabled. But, for some reason, UHD HDR discs and Netflix media the colors are muted. If I use the Netflix app on my TV the colors are great.

  10. I’m on the Omega Preview ring (omega is issued updates very soon before they hit general public and is easy for anyone to join). I received an update last night and it appears all HDR Black levels are fixed for Blu-Ray, Amazon HDR, etc. However that pesky
Netflix “always-on” HDR issue still persists, but that’s a different story. So if it hasn’t already I would think this should be pushed out to public very soon!

Latest firmware update corrects the HDR bugs, you should be getting proper black levels now.

Though be aware because HDR10 is a static unlike Dolby Vision HDR which is dynamic, even with the fixed firmware on some TV's because of the way they optimize their HDR10 you will get a dim looking display with HDR active, that's not an Xbox or TV problem
but a flaw in HDR10 itself. Ideally Xbox would offer the option to purchase a Dolby Vision license so at least for those movies with DV HDR you can avoid these kinds of problems.
