Latest Update Has Permanently Changed NAT Settings to Strict

Since the most recent update for the Xbox One, my NAT settings are now locked at Strict, and cannot be changed.

I have had the issue in the past, but only temporarily, and resetting the console has always been enough to correct the NAT errors. The NAT errors can no longer be influenced in any way.

It is my belief that the latest update removed the workarounds for the NAT issue. I have already done all the related troubleshooting (many, many times.) The router is not the issue, nor is the connection. I am 100% certain that the issue is with the Xbox,
100% certain that the latest update caused the problem to occur, and 99% certain that the update is actually the problem.

Have strict nat again, detailed nat is "your network is behind a port preserving port symmetric nat.

Also before I got the Oct update my Nat settings were strict and i didn't have any problems connecting to destiny since I changed them that's when the problems began

 

nat is in your router , modem or isp ...the latest update may have exposed something in your setup/network but I got the same update and nothing changed on my end ... if your wireless , try wired ...and you can try to reset the ROUTER to factory defaults
and see if it helps....if your router is also a modem and it came from your isp , then its most likely the bad guy here...

 

since a few days after this update i have been getting upload packet loss on my xbox one. I had been playing for months with no issues. I have tried it all... I am wired and have been always. Spoke to support chat2x, one person said it could be a xbl server.
I have a comcast tech. coming here tomorrow, right now I am wired directly into modem and i just tested connection. Download is fine, upload is under2mbps, packet loss 5%, it goes up and down. Speed tests on laptops were showing the normal speeds that I had
on xbox prior to the 30th of March 2016. 105 mbps down 11.5mbps or so up, 0% packet loss. I am at a loss now cause it seems to start losing packets and upload speed at 6:30pm est everyday since the 30th. In the early after noon im on with a solid connection,
no lag then like magic it goes to crap. I have the xbl support pages memorized cause I have spent hours going through the same things over. If I fix this I will post back with what the issue was. Xbox and Comcast point fingers at eachother, beyond a maddening
week this has been.

 

Oh and NAT is open, lets see what the tech finds tomorrow

 

We replaced our modem and router, I'm still hard wired and we still have issues, Comcast has sent a tech out now two days in a row, and tomorrow will be 3!!!! They are such an awful comtomer service company as most people know, but this is insane! Something
to do with the lines outside by the pole, I'm still getting loads of packet loss and my upload speed is horrible, and this spikes significantly after 7pm eastern time. Tomorrow not only a tech but a supervisor is coming out, I spoke to a great guy on the Xbox
support phone call and he helped me figure out I have a line issue yet Comcast has not resolved it and tomorrow will be a week !! I'm just glad it's not from our hardware inside or on the Xbox live server side, cause prior to March 30th I was gaming just fine
with zero packet loss, and upload of 11.8 download of 105.0, Comcast is taking us for a ride !!!!yay!! We don't have many other ISPs here to choose from though.... So fml,!!!

 

@megalexandros - As soon as you start experiencing issues with your console's nework performance, head over to your computer and run a tracert/traceroute to the following IP address: 134.170.29.25 (Xbox Live server)

tracert/traceroute is an extension of the ping command, which will also generate information for each router on a given route.

I have been working on this same issue for my son for the past month. A little history, I am a network security professional with a specialty in firewalls (check point/cisco) for 20 years. I have literally written thousands and thousands of NAT rules any
way imaginable. But this issue has me stumped! I have ensured there is nothing being blocked or translated other than the source IP. I have performed network packet captures to confirm.

Someone from Microsoft needs to resolve this issue or provide explicit instructions for what is required to enable OPEN nat. What does open nat even mean??? NAT doesn't restrict anything.

 

@Aggie252017 - One key component that most enterprise firewalls/routers are missing out from is the UPnP protocol stack, which gaming consoles highly depends on.

You have probably heard of open NAT in conjunction with cone NAT. It's a different naming convention, but which fills the very same purpose (diagnose a NAT's behaviour in conjunction with an endpoint application).

To better understand your situation, I would suggest that you start a new thread with a detailed description of your situation, along with any troubleshooting steps you have taken so far.

Include the make and model of your router and modem (if this is not a single device).
