Rumor has it that there will be an Xbox One without a Blu-ray player.

Microsoft,

I feel this is a very bad move if you are seriously considering this. Reason number one is people may feel like you are going to switch back to your original model with the weird DRM that no one really wanted. That would be bad. I thought you may have learned
something with the backlash and all. Second reason this is a bad idea, not being able to trade games, again see above. Third reason is that there are people like me that like Blu-ray and were glad to see that as an addition to the Xbox brand. The Blu-ray was
one of the main reasons I bought your system at launch. We felt we needed another Blu-ray player and figured this would be a win-win. So please DO NOT remove the Blu-ray in future versions to save money. Not a good idea.

Side note: The Blu-ray player is a bit of a disappointment. I have found it to be inferior to other Blu-ray players on the market. I would suggest if you are to change the Blu-ray drive make it a better one. One that will play discs without audio syncing
issues and be less sensitive to light smudges. Also I plan to buy a second Xbox One if the new Halo supports system link.

rumor is 2 months old...and already has been proven false..

 

I'm spoiled for choice when it comes to disc players in my house. 3 DVD players (Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One) and 2 Blu Ray players (Xbox One, PS3) but even so I find the idea of talking the Blu Ray out of the Xbox One, is a step away from being all in one.
But maybe that's just me, either way I hope it's bogus.

That is also true, but this rumor was listed with the Titanfall Xbox bundle which did turn out to be true. And since this rumor keeps coming up it sounds like it will be true as did the numerous rumors about the weird DRM for Xbox One.

I know people that would be a happy with digital only version, I wouldn't, but there are some, but, as mentioned it's a rumour that was false, or seems to be.

 

NO.... not the same thing... so just stop...

 

Good god I hope they don't go with digital only, my wife and I don't have broadband for internet, just have wifi (Verizon mifi) its good enough to stream Netflix and Amazon Prime. We are grandfathered in to there old plan of unlimited data. But it would
take days to download a 32-40 gig game!!!!

 

This is not going to happen for a long time for one simple reason. Retailers.

The stores hold a ton of power in this. If there is no disc drive there is no reason to give the X1 shelf space as they are not going to make much money of just the hardware. Software sales are how they get there profit.

If Microsoft or Sony try and cut out retail retail will cut them out so they better be ready to sell there consoles digital.

I thought by now we would've learned to stop posting about rumors. After 234209482039 of them were debunked or proven false altogether after E3.

Also, OP, there were a lot of us who actually liked what MS was trying to do with the DRM. We may have been the non-vocal minority (or even majority), but I/we(?) felt that this was how things were going in the future.

 

What would a internet upgrade do I have above average speeds 50/25 fiber and try downloading a game like Uncharted 3 for example I dont know any Xbox games that are yet that big.

It takes a long time people are not going to get packages over 100mbps just to download games it's a complete waste as there is no other reason for those speeds. Most people just surf the web and stream videos which can be done on a very modest package.

So on top of Xbox live they should spend all that extra money if it's even available a month I don't think so.

 

You people and rumors. There a dime a dozen, you people are too gullible.

 

The idea was that they would be offering a second, cheaper OPTION for the X1. If this rumor were true, the BD drive-less console would be a second SKU sitting on shelves next to the one with the BD drive. So anybody who wanted the drive could buy the $500
console, but if you already had a blu ray player and wanted to purchase games digitally, you could save a little bit.
