Last Xbox 360 update and internal storage handling

    Hey, guys.

So I'm curious whether latest Xbox 360 update changed the way internal hard drive is handled by X360 system.

Despite the fact Xbox 360 S (and probably E too) uses standard 2.5" HDD, there was (is) no ability to replace it by third-party hard drive. Unofficially there is, but you still need to buy one of few exact HDD models, reflash it, add Xbox1 partition manually,
    etc.

Last update added ability to connect up to 2 TB drives via USB. I have Xbox 360 Halo 4 Edition with 320 GB and I have spare 1 TB 2.5" Seagate.

But can I just plug this drive into SATA inside of console instead of using USB? That would be much nicer. Maybe last update finally enabled this? Anybody tried already?

    Thanks.

    :)

    Xbox 360 S 4GB Dashboard loads forever

Everything works without the 4GB memory chip I removed. I tried plugging in a normal USB to install any updates on, but the Xbox 360 complains about it not having an official Xbox storage unit. I'm not sure if I can buy an official Xbox 360 S HDD expansion and install all the updates on that instead of buying a new 4GB internal storage chip that I removed.

I'll probably buy a used Xbox HDD on ebay and give that a go without the 4GB internal storage chip to see if it works or not.

Cannot connect or update Xbox live or save game progress.

Ah, okay! That error code actually tells us the issue. According to our
troubleshooting page for System Update issues
, that error code means that there was an error detected with your internal storage device:

    xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-8007-045D

A storage device (memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:

    1. Turn off your console.
    2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives, or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.

    4. Turn on the console
    5. Try updating the console again.

Can you try removing and reinstalling your internal hard drive, if present? If that still does not work, unfortunately that means the hard drive is likely needing to be replaced.
