last name won’t change

That's odd. On https://account.microsoft.com, confirm if your name was updated correctly. Then visit https://account.xbox.com/Profile if it shows your correct gamertag the same as the one you currently use on your Xbox console so we can be sure you edited online the right account.

If so, try to re-add your account.
1. Remove account:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm. When you're finished, select Close.

2. Power cycle:
Press and hold Xbox's power button for 10 sec. Unplug the power supply for 30 sec. Plug it back in and turn it on again.

3. Add account:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select your gamerpic in the upper-left corner of the screen, move all the way down and select Add new.

Enter the email address for the Microsoft account that you want to add, and then select Enter.

hello! directly through my microsoft account, it allows me to change the last name and it works perfectly fine, however on my xbox no change is made and the last name remains the same as before. even on my xbox when i try to edit my last name through settings, it doesn’t change no matter what i do.

Did you try it on https://account.microsoft.com > Your info > Edit name?

Hi do you mean switching your username? If that’s what you mean you can change your activision name you won’t lose anything
